The SAAL Board of Directors is excited to introduce our two newest Board members: Maureen Guarcello, PhD and Kyle Amore. They will officially begin their terms in January of 2025 as EUNKYOUNG PARK and Megan Bell, PhD Bell complete their service at the end of December. Maureen A. Guarcello has more than 20 years of higher education experience, with research and practice focused on the ways predictive and learning analytics inform student success interventions and higher education policy. Before joining San Diego State University, Maureen earned her PhD from the University of San Diego, where she was a full scholar and graduate research assistant. Maureen serves as the director for SDSU's Program Evaluation, Compliance, and Assessment unit within Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. The research Maureen conducts with SDSU colleagues and education partners recognizes the presence of bias in student success interventions and risk assessment. Her work focuses on machine learning and statistical methods to reduce bias in the data, ultimately producing more accurate and equity-minded student support interventions for students. When she is not geeking out on data and technology, Maureen is an avid runner, music lover, and San Francisco Giants fan. Kyle Amore is the Associate Director of Co-curricular Assessment at Santa Clara University. Kyle comes from a residential life background with a focus on Living Learning Communities. His practice of assessment in residential life programs led to a full-time role helping Student Affairs professionals to build and use assessment skills to continuously improve their impact with students. Kyle is in his second year of his Doctorate in Social Justice Leadership with interest in studying the connection between trust and student assessment. When he's not working or studying Kyle enjoys hiking in the redwoods, hanging out at the beach, and playing board games with friends. Kyle has been a member of the Community Development and Engagement for the past 2 years where he hosted New Professional Conversations and a couple meet-ups at conferences. He is excited to continue to help with efforts to pull the SAAL membership together and build a culture of belonging across SAAL!
