💡 In February, in a high-level discussion organized in collaboration with European Parliament, we have for the first time revealed the research findings on the tech platforms used by online child sexual abuse offenders: 💻 #CSAM is easily accessible on the surface web, particularly on pornography sites and social media 📱 Offenders view and share CSAM on popular social media apps and messaging apps 🎮 Perpetrators seek contact with children on social media, messaging apps, and online games. 📢 The tech industry must step up their efforts to keep children #SafeOnline. This is fascinating research for anyone interested in deterrence messaging for CSAM related search terms - I also think quite interesting for any #trustandsafety teams exploring the use of Safety Chatbots as a potential path for user reporting in general. I remember being excited to review this proposal a few years ago when it came in as a funding proposal through the Safe Online Tech Coalition collaboration, so awesome to see it come to fruition. Thank you John Buckley for the share and Lucy Faithfull Foundation for the research (and to be honest, kudos to Aylo (fka Mindgeek) for opening up the opportunity to share data and collaborate on solutions).
Delighted to have been a peer reviewer on the Lucy Faithfull Foundation's latest paper; "Chatbots and warning messages: innovations in the fight against online child sexual abuse" (https://lnkd.in/e68bj6AW). Exciting to see this type of analysis being published, which combines (a) best practice approaches to prevention of online child sexual abuse with (b) innovation. Congrats to Sarah Smith and team. Looking forward to seeing where the chatbot goes next!

A great piece summarizing the good work colleagues and I at the Centre For Abuse & Trauma Studies | Training, funded by Safe Online, have been developing over the last few years. We wanted to create additional resources for content moderators, protecting their well-being and work-life balance while supporting them with a new online psychoeducational resource to help deal with the daily, cumulative challenges of viewing harmful online content such as CSAM. https://lnkd.in/ehv3dNVS Thank you to all those working in the content moderation space for your tireless efforts and playing the crucial role you do in preventing harm to children.
