This week marked the groundbreaking of The Farm's first phase at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, CA, which will feature the Safeway Barn. Safeway is a proud supporter of this exciting project. This innovative educational farm will serve as a valuable asset to the agricultural community and a field trip destination for students eager to learn about the farm-to-table process. Safeway celebrated a milestone this week with the groundbreaking of its first store in Oakley, California. The ceremony was a highlight of the much-anticipated Oakley Shops at Laurel Road development by Regency Centers. Safeway representatives, city personnel, and local dignitaries attended the event. The Lahaina Safeway recently hosted a commemorative gathering in honor of the one-year anniversary of the Maui fires. We stand together in gratitude for the incredible support of our associates, customers, and the community. The Safeway Foundation's campaign held during the fires demonstrated the strength of unity, raising over $1 million in aid to assist various non-profits including the Maui Food Bank, Hawaii Foodbank, Boys and Girls Club of Maui, Red Cross Hawaii, and Salvation Army Hawaii. Safeway also made a heartfelt contribution to King Kamehameha III Elementary School with a $10,000 donation in gift cards, as students returned to school at their new temporary location following the devastation of their original site in the fire. A special thank you to Hawaii Senator Angus McKelvey and Mahina Martin from the Office of Maui County Mayor Bissen for joining us in honoring this spirit of aloha.
