We're excited to announce the grand opening of our new store in Elk Grove, CA led by Store Director Nick Hicks. This marks our third location in the City of Elk Grove. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate opening day. We're so grateful for such an amazing turnout from the Elk Grove community. During the festivities, we were honored to award a special donation to the Elk Grove Food Bank to help nourish our neighbors in need followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony with our Northern California leadership team and city officials.

We were proud to be a part of the Best Buddies Challenge, a cycling event in Marin County supporting Best Buddies' mission of inclusion for individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities. Our team had the honor of being cheered on by Best Buddies ambassadors, including one of our own associates (Jerome) from the College Avenue Safeway (Oakland). Over the past three years, our Foundation has contributed more than $1.6M to Best Buddies through fundraising campaigns held in the Northern California Division. Thanks to the support of our store teams and customers.

For over 30 years, Safeway has been a proud sponsor of the World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, CA. Today, Travis Gienger from Anoka, Minnesota claimed first place with his pumpkin tipping the scales at 2,471 pounds earning him his fourth title. The fun continues, and you can see the prize-winning pumpkin at the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival on October 19th and 20th.

This month, we're proud to spotlight Store Director Michelle Frizzell at the Bancroft Safeway in Walnut Creek, CA (Store #936). We appreciate her efforts to lead by example bringing our company purpose to life, "To bring people together around the joys of food and to inspire well-being".

This week, over 30 associates from our NorCal Division Support team joined forces for an inspiring Hackathon volunteer event as part of our Million Hour Volunteer Rally. Together, we collaborated with local non-profits in the Bay Area brainstorming innovative solutions to the challenges they face in nourishing our neighbors in need. This week marked the groundbreaking of The Farm's first phase at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, CA, which will feature the Safeway Barn. Safeway is a proud supporter of this exciting project. This innovative educational farm will serve as a valuable asset to the agricultural community and a field trip destination for students eager to learn about the farm-to-table process. Congratulations to the #AlamedaCountyFairFoundation for achieving this project milestone.

Safeway celebrated a milestone this week with the groundbreaking of its first store in Oakley, California. The ceremony was a highlight of the much-anticipated Oakley Shops at Laurel Road development by Regency Centers. Safeway representatives, city personnel, and local dignitaries attended the event. In this month's Store Director Spotlight, we are excited to feature a great leader in the North Bay. Meet Jeff Beltran, the Store Director at the College Avenue Safeway in Santa Rosa.

The Lahaina Safeway recently hosted a commemorative gathering in honor of the one-year anniversary of the Maui fires. We stand together in gratitude for the incredible support of our associates, customers, and the community. The Safeway Foundation's campaign held during the fires demonstrated the strength of unity, raising over $1 million in aid to assist various non-profits including the Maui Food Bank, Hawaii Foodbank, Boys and Girls Club of Maui, Red Cross Hawaii, and Salvation Army Hawaii. Safeway also made a heartfelt contribution to King Kamehameha III Elementary School with a $10,000 donation in gift cards, as students returned to school at their new temporary location following the devastation of their original site in the fire. A special thank you to Hawaii Senator Angus McKelvey and Mahina Martin from the Office of Maui County Mayor Bissen for joining us in honoring this spirit of aloha.
