In this year’s Campaign for Social Science Annual Sage Lecture, Dr Hannah White OBE, the Director and CEO of the Institute for Government, will discuss how the UK can find its place in the world and contribute to addressing global challenges whilst also tackling challenges closer to home. From managing migration and tackling climate change to addressing health, housing, education and economic challenges, Hannah will discuss what the future might hold for the UK. Doors open at 5.45pm. We’re excited to announce the 2024 Concept Grant winners, awarding funding to three projects poised to drive innovation in the social and behavioral sciences. Learn more: https://ow.ly/Qrjo50Txe4f This year, three groundbreaking projects have been recognized for their forward-thinking contributions to research, learning, and teaching, receiving £8,000 each to advance their project development. Y: The Home of LLMs – Winning in the Doing Research category, this digital twin for social media analysis simulates “what-if” social scenarios, creating realistic synthetic data. Led by Giulio Rossetti, Y will use the grant to develop an accessible web interface. educate_R – Winning in the Learning category, educate_R is a suite of applications simplifying access to advanced data analysis tools for students and researchers. Led by William Christiansen, they’ll use the grant to refine their applications through user testing. The Media Education Research Lab (MERL) – Winning in the Teaching category, MERL’s Diversity Scores method empowers students to critically analyze diversity in media. Led by Gail De Kosnik, Jaclyn Zhou, and Jingyi Li, the grant will support the creation of a website with resources for instructors. Congratulations to this year’s winners!
