This week, we are thrilled to announce we've hired our sixth and seventh full-time employees! Please meet Devon Cravens, our Chief of Staff! Let’s get to know her! Devon, what do you want the world to know about you? I spent the first several years of my working life in the luxury hospitality and professional sports worlds before moving to SF in 2017 to work for Planet Labs, where I fell in love with commercial aerospace while watching a Minotaur-C launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base. I spent the next 7 years soaking up as much knowledge as I could while managing the supply chain for the medium res Dove/SuperDove product and learning useful skills like how to ship satellites to French Guyana during a global pandemic, and which sharpies were space approved. Working at Planet helped me discover my love for both space and aerospace in a way that I never expected, and I am thrilled to continue to feed that curiosity while at Samara. What motivated you to join the Samara team? I met Vedant a couple years ago while working at Planet and found both him and the Samara tech to be quite inspiring, so when I was presented an opportunity to get involved in the company while also growing my previously acquired skills it was a no brainer.

Launch less. Do More.
About us
Samara Aerospace’s mission is to fundamentally change how satellites are designed with our Hummingbird satellite bus, enabled by the revolutionary new pointing control technology, called MSAC. MSAC allows us to not only make Hummingbird thinner, lighter, and more rapidly producible than alternatives on the market, but also bring levels of pointing performance currently only available to the James Webb Space Telescope to the commercial Earth orbit market. This will unlock next-level image quality for Earth observing satellites, higher data rates for space-based Internet, and increased launch capacity for our strained launch infrastructure.

This week, we are thrilled to announce we've hired our sixth and seventh full-time employees! Please meet Kian Raissian, our newest mechanical engineer! Let’s get to know him! Kian, what do you want the world to know about you? I play a mean cello, and as a 12 year old a bison threw me against a wall at Yellowstone. What motivated you to join the Samara team? Besides the really exciting technology, it’s an opportunity to work with some really smart and welcoming people and an amazing excuse to indulge in my personal philosophy that exploring space allows us to further our understanding of life here on Earth.

Thank you Debra Werner and SpaceNews for covering our team! We're pleased to announce our Direct to Phase II contract award, new facility, and what MSAC can unlock for our Hummingbird spacecraft architecture and our customers! https://lnkd.in/gYGRampv "Traditionally, there’s been a fight between guidance, navigation and control engineers, who want satellite maneuverability, and power system engineers, who want large solar panels. We literally flip the trade. A larger solar panel comes with its own agility.”

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we’ve been awarded a $275k Phase 1 STTR grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), partnered with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign! The goal of this award will be to produce a flight-capable demonstrator of our Multifunctional Structures for Attitude Control (MSAC) system, the next generation of satellite pointing control technology. MSAC will enable thinner, lighter satellites with far greater pointing stability. This will unlock higher resolution Earth imagery, faster space-based Internet, and an overall lower cost to deploy assets to space. The result of this Phase 1 award will be a more reliable, efficient, and industry-ready MSAC system, as well as the opportunity for a $1M Phase 2 grant from NSF. This would allow Samara to launch our spacecraft into orbit, providing critical data and flight heritage. More info here: https://lnkd.in/gqpzQRsW Looking forward to the next chapter of Samara Aerospace this unlocks. MORE big announcements coming soon!
