Last month, we had the pleasure of hosting a Lyrik-al morning at 1001 Boylston, welcoming brokers from across Boston to tour the last remaining square feet of lab and office space — complete with stunning views and freshly brewed George Howell Coffee Company. It was a sneak peek filled with exciting updates, including CarGurus, Rivian, citizenM hotels, and the Lyrik Plaza grand openings. A huge thank you to our incredible partners Lauren Lipscomb, Charles Kavoogian, Margaret Fee at CBRE and Peter Sougarides for making the event such a success! Shoutout to Weesh Bake Shop for their delicious micro-batch pop tarts and Pink Carrot (coming to Lyrik in 2025!) for catering an incredible spread!

“A September to Remember” – Sean Broderick, RA Over a decade ago, planning began to deliver a once in a lifetime air-rights project, embarking on a journey that no one in Boston had completed in more than forty years since Copley Place. Today, Lyrik stands as a new gateway to the city and a vibrant anchor for the Back Bay neighborhood. There’s been some amazing moments and energy this past month as we welcomed the start of Lyrik Back Bay’s grand opening season - Back Bay’s newest open-air plaza opened to the public, CarGurus moved into their new headquarters at 1001 Boylston, and citizenM hotels celebrated the opening of citizenM Back Bay, the largest hotel in their portfolio. No photos could ever do justice the magic that is watching people cross over from Newbury St. and fall in love with Lyrik in a way that's personal to them. In just a few short weeks of being open, you can already see the impacts of this transformative development, from the improved street-level experience and safer pedestrian and bicycle connections to the second-level viewing deck and people gathering to watch the sun set to the West. Last week, we were excited to celebrate the opening of Lyrik, Boston’s first air-rights project in over 40 years, which stands as a new gateway to the city and an anchor for the Back Bay neighborhood. Lyrik features two buildings and a multi-level public plaza, offering an inviting space for the community to gather, connect, and enjoy a beautiful sunset. “It's amazing to see how active the plaza is in just the first few weeks since its opening,” noted David Manfredi FAIA, LEED AP. “People are gathering and enjoying the space, which is exactly what we envisioned.” Projects like Lyrik demonstrate the immediate impact that thoughtful and creative design can have on the urban landscape—bridging neighborhoods, fostering connections, and creating spaces where culture can thrive. As the sun set over the western horizon tonight, the whole S&A family celebrated 🥂 10 years of vision, persistence, patience, and team work - Lyrik Back Bay. Tonight was about the impossible. The challenges. The threat of stalls and stops (when a pandemic is staring you down). And the team that figured it out, got it built, and made the vision a reality. In so many ways it felt surreal to toast tonight to a job well done, well designed, and well constructed maybe because it felt like a chapter closing on some level or it feels like yesterday that we all celebrated the first beam over the Mass Pike and what a feat it was. Whatever it was, I couldn’t be more proud of this team and to work alongside them all. Lyrik is exceeding so many expectations and has very quickly become a place for people. The view to the west.... I was blown away yesterday after receiving this picture at just how captivating Lyrik's retail plaza looked as the sun set to the west and the plaza glowed. Newbury's new endcap is open and I'd invite everyone to come in, enjoy the welcoming communal seating throughout the two level public space, and take in Boston at this new vantage point. It’s wonderful to see the completion of our air-rights project, Lyrik (formerly Parcel 12). This is about more than a construction milestone for us at Samuels & Associates – this is about transforming important transportation and pedestrian corridors, restoring an important section of Boston’s urban fabric and creating a new civic space and park that will be transformational.   Building over eight lanes of highway and commuter rail tracks required an incredible level of coordination required between S&A, our contractor, consultant team, and city and state transportation agencies. As a result of the partnerships that drove this project forward, Lyrik now stands as a new gateway to the city and a vibrant anchor to Back Bay.   We were driven by a vision to knit together the surrounding neighborhoods, vastly improve the street-level experience, and bring safer pedestrian, bicycle, and transit connections – all with the community at the heart of our planning. I was fortunate to join my colleagues at Samuels & Associates in supporting Heading Home's "Backpack Buddies" program. We spent the afternoon packing 72 backpacks with essential school supplies for children living in shelters throughout Boston.     With the average student needing $529 in school supplies each year, we know how much this initiative means to families in need. Contributing to a cause that ensures these kids are equipped and ready to thrive in the upcoming school year was truly rewarding.     I'm proud to work for a company that values giving back to the communities in which we operate.
