What do pesticides, pharmaceuticals, plastic additives, and PFAS have in common? All these and more are found in San Francisco Bay waters and wildlife according to the just-released Pulse of the Bay, a publication of the Regional Monitoring Program for Water Quality in San Francisco Bay. Scientists and decision-makers face a critical challenge: identifying which unregulated, emerging contaminants pose the greatest environmental threats to our ecosystem and Bay Area residents. Thanks to the RMP, San Francisco Bay is one of the most thoroughly studied aquatic ecosystems in the world. Our forward-looking science fills the critical data gaps to protect the health of aquatic life and people. Check out the Pulse of the Bay for the latest science on 12 key classes of emerging contaminants, including “forever chemicals,” toxic flame retardants, and chemicals derived from car tires.
