Last week, we gathered in gratitude to honor and celebrate the incredible contributions of our Volunteer Ambassadors who have collectively given more than 8,220 hours this past year to support our two historic venues! 🎉 Thanks to these dedicated individuals, the Volunteer Ambassador Program at San Diego Theatres has become a cornerstone of our organization. Their passion, time, and heart continue to enhance the experience for our patrons and uplift the entire San Diego arts community. Thank you for your continual support! We're thrilled to share that the world premiere production of Rachmaninoff and the Tsar at Balboa Theatre has received glowing praise from Pam Kragen of The San Diego Union-Tribune! She describes Hershey Felder's latest work as "one of his best," highlighting his masterful performance, where he plays Rachmaninoff's repertoire with "both delicate pianissimo and ferocious bravado." We also extend our deepest gratitude to our San Diego community for their support of this production, especially to representatives of the San Diego Tourism Authority, San Diego Concierge Association, and Home Start Inc. for attending the opening night performance. We've also welcomed piano and music students from across San Diego to experience the magic of live theatre! Rachmaninoff and the Tsar runs through August 31 — don't miss the chance to experience this extraordinary play. We were proud to welcome the Western Arts Alliance (WAA) to the historic Balboa Theatre during their annual conference in San Diego. Our Director of Programming, Cindy Bowers, was part of the 2024 WAA Annual Conference Planning Committee, representing San Diego Theatres as we joined WAA in fostering connections and dialogue within the performing arts community. Together, we share a commitment to uniting people through the power of live performance. 🎭✨ #2024WAA #WesternArtsAlliance

On #NationalNonprofitDay, we’re proud to celebrate our role as a performing arts nonprofit in San Diego. Our mission goes beyond entertainment—we actively support and uplift other local nonprofits. We recently joined the Gaslamp Quarter Association, a nonprofit that promotes over 400 businesses in our vibrant district through community relations, special events and promotional programs. We're also long-time participants in Home Start Inc.'s annual holiday toy drive, a tradition that started in our ticketing department nearly 30 years ago. Last year, our team collected over 180 toys and $1,000 in gift cards and this year we are taking our efforts to a new level (stay tuned for exciting news)! Through the Balboa Theatre Grant Fund, we recently awarded nearly $50,000 to incredible nonprofit performing arts organizations that call our historic stages home. Thanks to donor and sponsor support, we’re making our spaces more accessible to diverse groups in our community, including San Diego Opera, San Diego Gay Men's Chorus, La Jolla Music Society, Classics 4 Kids, City Ballet of San Diego and the International Mariachi Foundation. Together, we’re supporting local arts and enriching our community!

Last weekend, our team proudly marched in the San Diego Pride Parade alongside our wonderful partners at Broadway San Diego 🌈 We are honored to celebrate and support the LGBTQIA+ community, which has always been a steadfast champion of the arts in San Diego. A big thank you to Broadway San Diego for having us! Our Pride celebrations featured an exciting collaboration with Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants' Kimpton Alma Hotel in the heart of downtown San Diego for a special SD Pride giveaway, centered around the upcoming Sibling Rivalry show at the historic #BalboaTheatre, featuring queer icons and RuPaul's Drag Race winners Bob The Drag Queen & Monét X Change. Thank you to everyone who made this weekend memorable! Your support and partnerships help us continue to enrich our vibrant arts community.
