Jorge Reguerin, VP SBA Business Development Officer, joined Santa Cruz County Bank in 2007. He works out of the Watsonville branch, supporting small businesses throughout Santa Cruz County. For 20 years Jorge has served on the El Pájaro Community Development Corporation (CDC) Board of Directors as board member, Treasurer and currently as Board Chair. The Watsonville-based nonprofit promotes access to economic opportunities for entrepreneurs and small business owners. Their resources include technical assistance, business plan training and an incubator program. The successful Plaza Vigil retail incubator has been home to a variety of startup businesses. Jorge says, “The retail and kitchen incubators are unique and not commonly found in CDCs. Our licensed kitchen facility has helped launch food-related businesses.” The CDC also has its own loan fund, available to small businesses and micro enterprises in Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito counties. In addition to economic development projects, Jorge supports community-based organizations, including fundraising and committee roles for the Watsonville YMCA remodel project. He is also on the Finance Committee for the Salud Para la Gente Board of Directors. Jorge attributes his community mindedness to his upbringing, “It comes from my mom. She made sure we gave back to the community where we lived. She was deeply involved in community organizations, especially in education.” Jorge instilled this community mindedness in his daughter, and now in his two granddaughters. He says proudly, “I can see them soaking it up!” Jorge’s priorities are reflected in his work as well. He says, “I like that Santa Cruz County Bank is a community-oriented local bank supporting nonprofits that are doing good work. Nonprofits bank with us because they know the Bank is a resource for them.” Jorge shares his motivation, “You have to be committed to the community that you live in. That’s really important. If you want to make any changes in the world, you have to start at home.” Jorge’s longtime commitment to supporting a vibrant and thriving community is inspiring. We’re proud to have him on the Santa Cruz County Bank team. Jorge Reguerin El Pájaro Community Development Corporation Salud Para La Gente

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month! Santa Cruz County Bank is joining the American Bankers Association’s “Banks Never Ask That” campaign to raise awareness about phishing scams – how to spot them and best practices to protect your confidential information. Phishing scams include fraudulent emails, texts and calls from scammers pretending to be your bank. If you receive an unsolicited email, text or phone call claiming to be your bank and requesting confidential or sensitive information like account numbers, passwords, PINs and social security numbers, this is a phishing attempt. Be safe! Don’t respond to the text or email, don’t click any links, end the call and call your bank’s customer service number directly. Be aware of phishing attempts and stay alert. Visit BanksNeverAskThat.com for a quiz and tips to help you learn more about these scams. American Bankers Association #BanksNeverAskThat #cybersecuritymonth #phishing #fraudprotection
