Santa Maria celebrated the opening of the newly completed I-CARE Clinic on the morning of September 26th. In attendance were Santa Maria’s supporters, partners and board members. Rounding out the celebration were remarks from Santa Maria CEO Nadine Scamp LMSW, Sarah Bogard MA LPA, Harris County Office of County Administration Behavioral Health Manager American Rescue Plan, and Dr. Roger Zoorob MD MPH FAAFP, Baylor College of Medicine Department of Family and Community Medicine. The I-CARE Clinic located at Santa Maria’s Bonita House is a partnership of Baylor College of Medicine Family and Community Medicine and Santa Maria. The I-CARE Clinic is designed to be an integrated clinic tailored to women with substance use disorders and their families, with the ability to address mental health, substance use treatment and recovery, physical health and social determinants of health, together in one setting through use of an integrated team model. Clinic services are available to women as well as their family members to reduce barriers to care, strengthen the family system, address or prevent adverse childhood experiences and foster optimal early childhood brain development in participants’ children. The I-CARE Clinic is fully staffed and has been providing onsite healthcare services to Santa Maria participants in a temporary space since March of 2023. The newly renovated and fully equipped clinic space was completed in August of 2024. Santa Maria is proud to offer a vital, safe and supportive healthcare home for families impacted by substance use who may not otherwise access care due to cost barriers or fear of how they may be treated by a medical provider unfamiliar with recovery.
