Proudly caring for Sarasota County's healthcare needs since 1925.

About us

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is a regional referral center offering Southwest Florida’s greatest breadth and depth of care, with more than 1,800 physicians and advanced practice providers and more than a million patient visits across its two hospital campuses, freestanding ER, and network of outpatient care centers. Its flagship 897-bed Sarasota hospital has been consistently recognized as one of the nation’s best, with superior patient outcomes and a comprehensive network of services. In 2021, the public health system opened its second acute-care hospital, SMH-Venice, with 178 beds and full range of specialties to serve south Sarasota County. As the region's only public health system – and only not-for-profit – it also serves as a critical safety net for the uninsured and underinsured in Sarasota County.

  • 🎉 🙌 Congrats to SMH's cardiac team! Yesterday, five SMH patients underwent a procedure for simultaneous pulse field ablation and implantation of the Watchman device, making SMH among the first in the nation to combine these two innovative therapies to treat atrial fibrillation and reduce stroke risk. The simultaneous procedures offer significant benefits for patients, allowing physicians to perform two equally vital treatments in a single cardiac catheterization. • 💙 Medical challenges can often hit close to home, impacting even our own physicians. That’s the case with Sara Karjoo, MD, who is in end-stage renal disease and in need of a kidney transplant. Having battled autoimmune vasculitis since she was a teen, Dr. Karjoo’s own health challenges fueled her passion for medicine and inspired her commitment to patient advocacy. For the past 10 years, Dr. Karjoo has cared for local children at SMH, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, and her specialty practice. While she continues to care for patients, Dr. Karjoo could use our community’s help! https://lnkd.in/eneZ73mZ
