The mission of the Sarasota Performing Arts Foundation is to create and sustain a vibrant performing arts center, advance education, and enrich communities by inspiring minds through the power of the arts. Since 1987, the Van Wezel Foundation has partnered with the City of Sarasota to foster a connection between the city, the people, the bay and the spirit of human creativity. Through this collaboration and the generosity of donors, the Foundation has provided grants of more than $14 million to ensure arts education training for more than 500 teachers and arts education programming to more than 40,000 students and at-risk youth across five counties each year.

⭐ Wolf Trap Wednesday Spotlight: Maria Tereza Schaedler-Luera ⭐ Meet Maria, a Brazilian-born educator and artist who brings a wealth of experience and passion to our Gulf Coast Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts teaching team! Maria is Sarasota Performing Arts Foundation’s 2022 Appleton Award Winner, and has led our ArtSELF workshops at Resilient Retreat, Inc., Harvest House, and Sarasota County Schools Parent University. Trained under Augusto Boal, Maria has taught at places like the American Repertory Theater, Harvard Extension School, Lesley University, and many other organizations. Her innovative arts education has earned her multiple awards, including the 2019 Arts Leadership Award. At the Harvard Art Museums, she made art accessible to immigrants, teaching in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Maria holds a degree from The American Musical Dramatic Academy in NYC and a Master's in Intercultural Relations and Arts for Social Change from Lesley University. She continues to inspire our community through the arts.
