Media members spoke with Deputy Fire Chief, William Handy today after an unintentional brush fire off Ogeechee Rd. was finally extinguished. The fire first started in the morning of March 26th. Later that same day, units were called to the Red Roof Inn for a structure fire that displaced 70 individuals. Two major fires happening on March 26th with no reported injuries. We’re now happy to say that the events of March 26th are officially over after extinguishing the brush fire on April 19th!

#WomensHistoryMonth - FE Tyler Barrett has been with Savannah Fire Department for 7 years. She is assigned to Rescue 2 C-Shift. She holds multiple technical rescuer certifications as well as public safety diver. Prior to the fire service, AFF Barrett was a collegiate basketball and strength and conditioning coach. AFF Barrett said she joined the fire service to be able to give back to the community and constantly be challenged. AFF Barrett is an avid runner and loves being outdoors. She is also the Camp Director of Camp Ignite, an all-girls camp which empowers and inspires young women to be the best they can be. AFF Barrett says being a firefighter is the most rewarding career one could have, and she is honored to be a part of such an awesome organization at Savannah Fire Department.

The Savannah Fire Department is no stranger to EMS calls, but firefighters on Engine 3 got some new life experience when they had to deliver a baby on River Street earlier this year. Fire Engineer Michael Greene rode on the call and shares what happened when they found a woman going into labor on the riverfront.
