About us

SaveABunny is an award-winning, 501c3, nonprofit rabbit rescue organization based in Northern California. We work with over 30 animal shelters to make sure abandoned, abused and neglected rabbits get the second chance they deserve. We help both wounded and adoptable rabbits heal and find their forever homes. We are known worldwide for our success in healing physically wounded and emotionally traumatized rabbits by integrating Western veterinary care with Eastern healing arts. Rescue work is both heartbreaking and hopeful. Since 1999, we have been involved with the life-saving rescues of nearly 5,000 rabbits. Yet, each rabbit is special in his or her own way and each has a story. We are passionate, professional, compassionate, scrappy and resourceful. We rely primarily on donation from the public.

This past week our Founder, Marcy Berman Ⓥ 🌱 💚 had the pleasure of flying two SAB adoptables, Yvette, Jose to Chicago to visit longtime adopters Jennifer and Tommy who recently lost 2 senior bunnies. From Marcy: “Young bunny energy and antics. It's all fun and games until the bunstruction begins! Yvette LOVES attention and within minutes was up on the sofa. A few minutes later she had squirmed her way UNDER the sofa where she stretched out for a nap in the shade. We're testing out different furniture configurations to give her safe space to play and hang out with the family. If you are an approved adopter consider flying me and a bunny (or two) out to you! Haha the only way for me to get a vacation!” We are so excited for Yvette, Jose along with Jennifer and Tommy as these two celebrate settling into their forever home! Big thanks to Alaska Airlines for allowing the bunnies in cabin and making this adoption possible!

Note: We have permission to share these photos. Typically, I keep acts of "service" private. It's part of my spiritual path. You may have heard me say before that there is profound healing possible between humans and rabbits. Ting was a master teacher of giving and receiving unconditional love. For anyone who shares this perspective this is a touching story. A man contacted us that his wife was in hospice with advanced stage 4 cancer. She expressed a dying wish to be surrounded by bunnies to snuggle. I offered her Reiki and she said she also really needed someone to talk with, so I listened. There's more to this story, but this is all I will post for now. ~Marcy

As we continue to celebrate our incredible SaveABunny adoption community this week, we want to give our extended gratitude to those out there, who have given the gift of happily-ever-after to a former lab rabbit. In our line of work, we are no stranger to the perils that lab rabbits face. Following every legal lab rescue we have participated in, we often find rabbits who arrive in our care, are reeling from profound emotional and physical trauma. For some, the healing process may only take a few months, but more often than not, healing can take years. Years of reassurance that they are safe, protected, valued and loved. Today, we want to celebrate the story of Lina & Blanquita. — "I met Blanquita (then Sugar Venom) in March 2020, when I was living alone in a studio amidst lockdown. Although I was initially wary of the lab rabbits, her charming personality, curiosity and love of head pets made her an easy pick when I went to Saveabunny. I remember telling Marcy that l'd be back in 1 month and that it was only going to be a foster. but when Blanquita became the perfect Covid companion and give me a endless amount of love & kisses 3 weeks into the foster, I knew I couldn't return her. Here we are 4 years later and I love her endlessly! Don't knock the lab bunnies/New Zealand Whites - they are some of the friendliest, funniest, most curious bunnies there are!" —— It is stories like Blanquita and Lina that remind us of that the healing journey is often one of shared experience - and the benefits that come with such an experience create powerful and healing bonds between humans and rabbits alike. Blanquita was legally rescued from a lab by SaveABunny Foster-to-Adopt can be a great way to give back to a rabbit in need and also provide a great opportunity to determine IF rabbit companionship is right for you. At SaveABunny, we take pride in our specialized approach in matchmaking to ensure the best fit for human and the rabbit. Please text us at 855-458-7244 if you're interested in jump starting the process.

Dear Friends this is an EMERGENCY Most our posts are upbeat stories. So, when we reach out for emergency help it's an emergency we can't solve ourselves. The Bay Area is in crisis with unwanted rabbits. You may not be aware of the desperate situations at municiple shelters with no money, resources, or publicity. ‼️These shelters will euthanize for space and there are about 18 rabbits who face imminent euthanasia. Some are pictured below. Don't blame the shelters. They HAVE reached out for help and we are working with 2 South Bay rescues to try to get these bunnies to safety. 🚨 We are on overflow and have NO SPACE. It's heartbreaking. ❤️🩹PLEASE FOSTER. We will set you up with all the supplies you need or refer you to one of the other groups. It doesn't have to be fancy. Just safe and indoors only. We will guide you. ➡️Text 855-458-7244 to foster Can't foster? ➡️Volunteer. You are needed! info@saveabunny.org ➡️Donations are always needed for vet bills, food and supplies. https://lnkd.in/gE_GyVdM P. S. Here's the challenge. Please don't just post frowny faces and "wish I could help". You CAN help in some way. See above. Out of state? If you are an approved foster there are safe ways to get bunnies to you. This is not a dress rehearsal. This is life and AND death! ~ Marcy

SaveABunny was honored to join forces with Juice Beauty, Inc. and Urban Remedy Inc. this past Tuesday at the #JuiceBeautyFarm to celebrate sustainability, clean living, and compassion. We are deeply inspired by Karen Behnke, Neka Pasquale LAc MS, and our own Marcy Berman Ⓥ 🌱 💚. As women founders, they have fervently championed a path forward for advocating environmental care, promoting access to cleaner, sustainable living, and demonstrating how education, awareness, and influence can positively change behaviors. Together, they are building a greener, more compassionate future. Reflecting on Tuesday, we celebrate the significant strides we've achieved while recognizing the work that remains in our journey toward a fully sustainable and cruelty-free future. Central to our mission at SaveABunny is changing the narrative around rabbits from being seen as test subjects to being respected as valued companion animals deserving of love and care. To truly transform our impact, it is crucial to broaden the acceptance of cruelty-free practices across various industries and communities. Enhancing advocacy, education, and access to these practices will be key. As part of our commitment, SaveABunny will continue to use our platform to advocate for rabbits, promoting their welfare and the wider adoption of ethical practices that honor their right to a compassionate and dignified life. We extend our gratitude to each and every one of you who supported and participated in this initiative. Your involvement is not just appreciated, it is essential as we continue our mission to provide compassionate care and positively impact the lives of rabbits and beyond. Your support is what makes our work possible. #EarthDay2024 #AnimalWelfare #SustainableLiving #ThankYou #WomenInLeadership #LoveForBunnies #CompanionAnimals #GreenInnovators #EndAnimalTesting #CleanBeauty #ZeroWasteLifestyle  #RabbitAdvocacy #JuiceBeauty #UrbanRemedy #SaveABunny #SutainableFuture #ED2024 #EcoFriendlyLiving #CrueltyFree #EndLabTestsonAnimals

Today, on #WorldDayForAnimalsInLaboratories, we stand in solidarity with the countless animals subjected to laboratory testing, often under harsh and unforgiving conditions. At SaveABunny, we are dedicated not only to providing legal rescue for rabbits who've endured such conditions but also to providing them with a path to recovery and a chance at a new life. The Depth of Trauma and the Journey to Healing: In every legal lab rescue we've participated in, we have witnessed the profound trauma these rabbits endure. The path to recovery is long and complex, involving not just physical healing but also psychological rehabilitation. Each rabbit that comes into our care reminds us of the deep scars left by their past experiences and reinforces our commitment to treating every animal with the dignity, care, and respect they deserve. These experiences underscore the immense work still needed to prevent such suffering and to ensure that all rabbits receive the compassionate treatment they are owed. In March, we legally welcomed four rabbits from lab settings, and this May, we're gearing up to legally rescue five more. Each story of rescue and rehabilitation is a testament to why our work is crucial and why changes in public perception and support for cruelty-free practices are essential. Nivens' Journey: A Tale of Healing and Hope: Four years ago, Nivens, a gentle rabbit rescued legally from a laboratory, found a new beginning through adopter Danielle Jenkins; Nivens was incredibly shy and withdrawn, a shadow of her potential self due to her previous life in a lab. It took three years of patience and love for Nivens to allow Danielle to pet her without fear. Today, thanks to her bond with her husbunn, Hatter, Nivens is finally coming out of her shell and learning to trust again. Her story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of these animals and the profound impact of a loving home. Join Our Advocacy Efforts: We are actively seeking volunteers who are passionate about initiating change at the highest levels through advocacy and campaigns. If you are driven to help transform how animals are treated and contribute to shaping a cruelty-free future, we invite you to join our dialogue and explore how you can make a difference. Learn more at www.saveabunny.org 📧 For more information on how to get involved, please contact us at info@saveabunny.org Join us as we continue to fight for a world where every lab rabbit has a chance at a happy, healthy life outside the confines of scientific research. Let's make compassion the standard. #SaveABunny #AnimalRescue #CrueltyFree #RabbitRescue #StopAnimalTesting #AnimalRights #CompanionNotLivestock #EcoFriendlyPets #WorldDayForAnimalsInLaboratories #EndAnimalCruelty #AdoptDontShop #AnimalWelfare #BeCrueltyFree #VoiceForTheVoiceless #CompassionateLiving

We had a blast hanging out with Michael Thomas and the KRON-TV team this morning to discuss all things Easter & Rabbits, with a special message encouraging families to Foster-To-Adopt. At SaveABunny we like to match families with the right rabbit to ensure the best possible outcome for rabbits & humans! Like any other companion animal, rabbits come in all different sizes with distinct personalities! We believe the best way for a family to determine if long-term rabbit guardianship is right for them, is by fostering first! If you caught the segment, you may have noticed two VIBs (very important bunnies) with us. Lop In The Box & Just Ken made their debut appearance today with @beingmichaelthomas! Just Ken & Lop In The Box Are available for adoption! Watch the full segment here: https://lnkd.in/gRUkynpJ Special thanks to C.A. P. , Marisol C. , Patty Stanton

We want to extend our gratitude to Itay Hod for the insightful interview featuring SaveABunny, which was featured on KPIX | CBS San Francisco/Bay Area yesterday evening. This segment offered us a valuable platform to articulate the considerations involved in welcoming a rabbit into one's home, particularly around the Easter period, and to introduce the concept of our Foster-To-Adopt program as a meaningful way to support rabbit rescues and assess the suitability of permanent rabbit guardianship for families. We are pleased to announce that this segment will be broadcast nationally on CBS Evening News tonight at 5:30 PM PST. This provides an exceptional opportunity for a wider audience to understand the importance of responsible rabbit adoption and the benefits of fostering as a preliminary step towards permanent adoption. We invite our community and broader audiences to join us in watching along tonight, as it underscores our commitment to the welfare of rabbits and the pivotal role of adoption and fostering in ensuring these cherished animals find loving, forever homes. Interested in providing a loving home to a rabbit? SaveABunny offers opportunities for foster, foster-to-adopt, and adopt. In honor of #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek and #DevelopmentalDisabilitiesAwarenessMonth, we want to take a moment to celebrate #cognitivediversity by highlighting ways in which rabbit-human bonds can enhance well-being, empathy, and emotional connection. Did you know... ➡ Rabbits can help create sensory-safe spaces, relieving overwhelming daily stimuli. ➡ Individuals with sensory processing sensitivities may find multisensory comfort in the emotional and sensory support provided by rabbits. ➡ Rabbits can be comforting for individuals with neurodivergent conditions since they primarily communicate through body language, offering more opportunities for non-verbal communication. Dive into our latest Bunny Brief to learn more. #SensoryWellbeing #TactileInteractions #SilentCommunication #RabbitCompanions #InclusiveWellbeing #RabbitBonding #NeurodiversityAwareness #DevelopmentalSupport #CognitiveLearning #AnimalAssistedWellness #QuietComfort #EmpathyThroughAnimals #SensoryHarmony #NonVerbalUnderstanding #TherapeuticCompanions #InclusiveHealing #BunnyTherapy #NeurodiverseSupport #GentleCompanions #MindfulInteraction #UnderstandingWithoutWords #DiversityInCompanionship #EmotionalWellbeingWithPets #SoothingCompanions #NeuroinclusiveSupport #RabbitRespite #DEI #DisabilitiesInclusion #SaveABunny
