Today, we're celebrating a true cornerstone of our Saving Sight family—our Director of Patient Services, Jenna Sleeper, on her tenth anniversary! Jenna’s leadership is a blend of insight, encouragement, and trust. She’s known for asking the right questions—the ones that push her team to think deeper and grow. As Mark perfectly put it, “Jenna is the GOAT at discernment. She pushes for better outcomes, always encouraging us to be better—not just in our jobs, but as people.” Her leadership style, combined with a foundation of trust, has helped shape the department. As Nicole shared, “Jenna guides instead of controls. I constantly hear her voice when making decisions.” Griffin echoed this, reflecting on her passion for our mission. “Her resilience and energy are inspiring. She encourages us to be self-starters, and I’ll always be grateful for the trust and support she has given us.” Thank you, Jenna, for your dedication and for shaping the culture of leadership, trust, and growth here at Saving Sight. Thank you for all you do to change lives by saving sight!

Congratulations on this achievement Ayobami Adebayo! Your work in this area of research is helping us advance our work in serving patients and stewarding the gift of eye donors.
Ayobami Adebayo, a fourth-year medical student, was recently honored for his ophthalmology research. At the NMA Ophthalmology conference in August, he received the Medical Student Research Excellence award for the study titled, “Effects of Eye Bank Donor Age Expansion on Corneal Endothelial Cell Density and Surgeon Tissue Acceptance.” Mr. Adebayo and his coauthors found that the quality of corneas from donors aged 75 to 80 years were comparable to those below 75, which is the current age limit for donation. Despite this, surgeons were significantly less likely to accept corneas from the older group, suggesting possible age bias. After his NMA award, Mr. Adebayo was asked to present at the Cornea and Eye Banking Forum, taking place in Chicago in October 2024. Mr. Adebayo conducted the research while in the lab of Roy Chuck, M.D., Ph.D., the Paul Henkind Chair of Ophthalmology at Einstein and Montefiore, who was senior author for the study. #MedEd #medschool #medschoollife #becomingaphysician #science #ophthalmology #research
