NEWS RELEASE FROM THE SC EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIVISION: Catawba Indian Nation, Jasper and York Counties Eligible for FEMA Assistance in South Carolina. Homeowners and renters in Jasper and York counties and tribal members of the Catawba Indian Nation who had uninsured damage or losses caused by Hurricane Helene are now eligible to apply for FEMA disaster assistance. FEMA may be able to help with serious needs, displacement, temporary lodging, basic home repair costs, personal property loss or other disaster-caused needs. The Catawba Indian Nation, Jasper and York counties join Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Cherokee, Edgefield, Greenville, Greenwood, Hampton, Laurens, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg and Union counties previously authorized for assistance to households. The quickest way to apply is to go online to DisasterAssistance.gov. You can also apply using the FEMA App for mobile devices or calling toll-free 800-621-3362. The telephone line is open every day and help is available in most languages. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service. What You’ll Need When You Apply -A current phone number where you can be contacted. -Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying. -Your Social Security number. -A general list of damage and losses. -Banking information if you choose direct deposit. -If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name. If you have homeowners, renters’ or flood insurance, you should file a claim as soon as possible. FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. The SC Department of Insurance is in Aiken today and tomorrow to assist with filing claims. Details below:
As recovery efforts continue after Hurricane/TS Helene, we are offering consumers assistance and remote claims services along with insurance carriers Monday & Tuesday, October 7th and 8th in Aiken, SC. Details are as follows: Insurance Claims Village | Monday & Tuesday, October 7th – 8th at 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. both days | Aldi’s Parking Lot 2510 Whiskey Road Aiken, SC 29803 Representatives from State Farm, USAA, Allstate, South Carolina Farm Bureau Insurance Company, Auto-Owners, Travelers, Progressive, Nationwide, and Heritage Insurance Companies will be in attendance along with members of the SC DOI’s Office of Consumer Services to help consumers file claims and answer insurance-related questions. The SC DOI’s Insurance Fraud Division will share information to help consumers prevent being scammed by bad actors who often show up after a disaster.

We will be joining our project partner Weston & Sampson for a public meeting in Dillon County next week to receive public comment on stormwater upgrades to the Riverdale Community stormwater system!
