About us
South Central Association of Blood Banks (SCABB) is a nonprofit organization consisting of ten states assigned to four districts. The individual members of the association are healthcare workers such as medical technologists, nurses, physicians, administrators, donor recruiters, phlebotomists, and industry representatives interested in the field of transfusion medicine. The institutional members are hospitals, blood donor centers, and blood testing centers. The corporate members are companies that support SCABB and provide products and services for the individual and institutional members of the organization. The Mission of South Central Association of Blood Banks is to provide opportunities for members to enhance their abilities to deliver quality blood services. Our Goal: To be recognized as the most reputable and conveniently accessible resource for education, professional development, suppliers and peer-to-peer networking in the blood banking and transfusion management industry.

SCABB has been working with UBI and Carter BloodCare over the past 12 months to educate college students on the need for blood donation and a way to open up opportunities for students to learn more about what working in a blood center looks like. The partnership between SCABB, UBI and Carter BloodCare has allowed us to not only spread the word about the need for blood donation, but also afforded us opportunities to share our mission and organization with those on many different educational tracks. Students had the opportunity to learn what job positions blood centers employ and were given the opportunity to participate in job shadowing opportunities across the organization. In the first year, we had a total of five students reach out for opportunities to learn more about what happens at Carter BloodCare. As this partnership grows, we hope to build a bridge where students interested in blood biologics field, have stepping stones to a career.

We are honored to feature Dr. Samantha Gomez Ngamsuntikul, the recipient of the 2024 Bill Teague Cornerstone Award, presented at the 2024 SCABB Annual Meeting & Exhibit Show. Dr. Ngamsuntikul has been with BioBridge Global for 8 years now and has been a trusted and valued colleague. For this award, she has truly changed the face of transfusion medicine because she was instrumental in starting BioBridge Global’s Low Titer O Whole Blood program.
