We knew Brandon was a star, but now he’s officially a star among stars! We have the ⭐ STAR Award ⭐ to prove it. California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) and the National Association of Telecommunications Officers awarded County of Santa Clara Public Health Department 🥇 1st place 🥇 for the video series “Brandon in the Lab” in the Health-Public/Mental category. This is the award for the very best of the best videos from government agencies all across the states of California and Nevada. Are we really all that surprised after seeing the entertaining and educational series Oscar Arguello put together with Brandon and his team? The series features a behind the scenes look at the Public Health lab and features expert Brandon Bonin, Director of the Public Health Laboratory. It’s quick, funny, nerdy, and very science-y. And people seem to love it! Each episode focuses on a different topic, including pathogens, genomic sequencing and the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and bio protection. If you haven’t watched the mini-series, watch it on Public Health’s YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/gUXjhzP2 #publichealth #science #laboratory #capio

Take a look at our Director of Research & Outcome Measurement, Chris Hoover's latest research on California's Vaccine Equity Policy findings, published in the May issue of Health Affairs! Read the full article: https://bit.ly/3K3grIj #vaccineequity #publichealth
In March 2021, California implemented a vaccine policy that “distributed 40 percent of available COVID-19 vaccines to the least advantaged one-quarter of communities in California.” Community need was measured by a California-specific, area-based socioeconomic measure. In the May issue of Health Affairs, Christopher Hoover of the California Department of Public Health and coauthors explore findings from California’s COVID-19 vaccine equity policy. The researchers estimate that in the least -advantaged communities, the policy resulted in a 28.4 percent increase in vaccination rates. Also, more than 160,000 cases, 10,000 hospitalizations, and 670 deaths were averted because of the policy. Despite these findings, Hoover and coauthors note that “the share of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in prioritized communities remained elevated.” Read the full article: https://bit.ly/3K3grIj For more on the paper’s findings, listen to an upcoming episode of A Health Podyssey featuring lead author Christopher Hoover and Health Affairs Editor-in-Chief Alan Weil.

We are proud of our Getting to Zero Team for organizing the "Addressing Mental Health among Older Adults with HIV" event recently. This event honored HIV long-term survivors awareness day and addressed the topic of mental health among older adults living with HIV, including its intersection with loneliness, isolation, substance use and more. Today I had the privilege of speaking at statewide skill building symposium, “Addressing mental health among older adults with HIV” hosted by Pacific AIDS Education & Training Center and UCSF in partnership with the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department. It was an enriching experience hearing from various speakers gathered on one platform. The event was well attended by a diverse audience. A big thank you to organizers and Dr. Harit Agoria for entrusting me with this opportunity. At, Bay Area Community Health we believe in collaborative and whole person care. I'm proud of my team's dedication to serving clients in both Alameda and Santa Clara counties. #publichealth #mentalwellbeing #hivcare
