High school partnership program in Oregon that challenges student leaders to create change through philanthropic giving.
About us
In this year-long, student-directed program, Schnitzer Cares groups act as "mini-foundations." Students begin the year by selecting a community issue or service area they feel passionately about. Groups are guaranteed $7,500 from The CARE Foundation for their grantmaking and can double those funds by raising an additional $750, which CARE matches 10:1, up to a maximum gift of $15,000. Students spend the rest of the school year completing the grantmaking process – learning more about their service area, evaluating grant proposals, meeting with representatives from nonprofit organizations that have applied for funding, and deciding which to fund. Schnitzer Cares currently supports 83 student groups across 40 partner schools.
