There’s no playbook to being a good school board member. But luckily with School Board Partners we can equip you with the skills, resources and community to be the best school board member you can be.

Danielle has spearheaded numerous policy reforms with her tenacious leadership and by harnessing the support offered by SBP policy coaching. In April 2022, she gained board approval for a revamped board committee policy, establishing functional board subcommittees for the first time, including the creation of a policy committee which she then became Chair of in 2023. She then successfully garnered board approval for a revised board policy development policy in July 2023, bringing a more streamlined and transparent policy development approach to the Board and setting the stage for additional policy reforms yet to come. In January 2023, Danielle led the Board’s involvement in an overhaul of the district’s instructional policies.

In 2022, SBP found that 84% of school board members were paid $10,000 or less. Our 2022 Empty Seats report was just the beginning. We look forward to showing you or most recent findings in our Empty Promises Report.

Antonia Watts (SBP Cohort 4) was Chair of her Board in 2023. Antonia spearheaded dramatic improvements to her district’s superintendent evaluation process in 2022–2023. The new process, led by Antonia, with support from SBP’s policy coach, was summarized by a 1-page framework document, with 60% of the evaluation based on the achievement of four of the board’s highest priority SMART goals for student outcomes.
