We are thrilled to announce that two of our projects received recognition at this year’s AIA Central States Design Awards Program! These awards recognize outstanding achievements in all areas of architectural design and construction craft, bring together & celebrate members of the design and construction community, and increase awareness of quality design & its execution in the region. The Center for Creative Arts (COCA) Renovation and Expansion received a Merit Award for Architecture. This multi-phase project roughly doubled COCA’s footprint through an expansion that honors the historic modernist building. This allows COCA to serve more students from the region and offer additional programs, expanding its impact on St. Louis’ cultural and civic communities. The St. Louis Symphony Powell Hall Renovation and Expansion received a Merit Award for Unbuilt Work. As the first major renovation project at the historic Grand Center building since it became the SLSO’s permanent home in 1968, this project will transform the building into a modern venue that enhances the audience and artist experience. Christner is serving as Architect of Record on the project with Snøhetta as Design Architect. Each of these projects was a collaborative effort with consultants, contractors, and owners. Thank you and congratulations to our talented team members and collaborators! COCA Photos by: Sam Fentress (Sam Fentress) https://lnkd.in/gh8hGjXp

Since its opening in 1939, the stage at the Robinson Center in Little Rock, AR has hosted a plethora of great performances, from the first-ever recording of Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog” in 1956, to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and current Broadway tours. As part of a complete renovation, the theatre was reconfigured to create a more intimate audience experience. Stage, backstage and lobby areas were improved and expanded, and a new ballroom overlooking the Arkansas River was added. Schuler Shook provided the programming and concept development for the renovation, as well as theatre planning and design services for theatre seating, orchestra pit lift, stage rigging, stage curtains and tracks, variable acoustical draperies, orchestra enclosure, and stage lighting systems. Ryan Gann led us in last week's firm-wide DEI training session about building our DEI Toolbox. We appreciate the time that Ryan spent prepping with us to create this personalized training, and it speaks to his inherent approach of listening as an important part of a community-based design process. We're excited to continue building out our DEI Toolbox and further developing the skills we practiced during our session. Thank you, Ryan! https://lnkd.in/dikDq4KW

Located in the landmark 1891 Mills Building, a modern office serves as the San Francisco home of architectural firm, Gensler. Made up predominantly of open-plan office areas and collaborative spaces, various methods and styles of lighting help delineate specific “zones” while maintaining the open, communal feel of the office. Consideration of different employee working styles helped to guide the design, intentionally creating work settings for those who like active areas with background conversations, and quieter spaces for those who prefer silence to concentrate. The lighting design supports the intentions of each space, creating distinct and specific moods for spaces such as “The Lodge” and “The Solarium” through illumination. Daylight-responsive dimming controls are integrated into the office’s overall lighting controls systems to optimize energy performance and lower electric lighting power density, compliant with Title 24 and LEED Certification requirements.
