Virtual Bootcamp and just about to launch our in-person Build Clinic at the Northern Illinois University Naperville campus next week. Everyone is loving the online learning and the opportunity to get a jump-start on the 2025 Science Olympiad season. A partnership with the National Science Teaching Association only makes it sweeter! I am over the moon to announce NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronaut and Science Olympiad alum Dorothy Metcalf-Lindenburger as Keynote Speaker for the 40th Annual Science Olympiad National Tournament at Michigan State University on Friday, May 24! Before Dottie was a flight engineer and mission commander, she got her start as a competitor in Science Olympiad at Fort Collins High School, then coached a team at Hudson Bay High School in Vancouver, Washington. It’s a full circle moment for her, and a full circle moment for all of us at Science Olympiad, Inc. soinc.org/40

🛠 Ever found yourself wrestling with confusing IKEA assembly instructions? If you believe you can do better than those bewildering diagrams, Science Olympiad, Inc. has an event might be your perfect match. Instead of battling Allen wrenches and unclear illustrations, participants in the "Write-It-Do-It" event describe objects by writing assembly instructions using precise language. Their partner will then attempt to recreate the original object with these same written instructions. If you're looking to enhance your communication skills, or have an interest in learning more about this event, check out my latest article with The Whole Kid. The "Write-It-Do-It" event in the Science Olympiad competition taught me the importance of precise language, sequencing, and built-in adaptability in designing easy-to-follow instructions. 2nd year hosting two regional Science Olympiad, Inc. (SO) tournaments at Baldwin Wallace University! This has become the highlight of the spring for me! Our campus had over 900 students, their families, teachers, and volunteers! The campus was buzzing with activity in our labs, classrooms, and dining hall! My favorite part was the award ceremony. Seeing the teams encouraging and cheering for each other was a joy! We were able to share with the students about #STEMScholarships through the State of Ohio's #ChooseOhioFirst program and consider our BW Division of Community Learning opportunities in the summer and throughout the year to engage with STEM, athletics, and arts! www.bw.edu/dcl Fun facts! Ohio ranks seventh in the country regarding the overall number of student participants. More than 4,500 students from around Ohio make up 300+ teams that compete each year in the program. SO encourages students 6-12 to demonstrate their skills in STEM areas and has 46 hands-on events in multiple STEM disciplines that require preparation, commitment, coaching, and practice throughout the year.
