Phoenix, Arizona is at the forefront of educational innovation with its diverse array of microschools, a movement gaining traction thanks to Universal ESA funding. These microschools are not confined to traditional settings—they operate out of districts, charters, private institutions, and even homes, providing personalized and supportive learning environments. From storefronts like KaiPod Learning, which mixes academics with enrichment activities, to school district options like PXU City which offers flexible schedules and immersive learning experiences, Phoenix is setting a standard for educational diversity as highlighted in a new Getting Smart Blog by Tom Vander Ark. The integration of microschools on college campuses and special programs like the Science Prep Academy for neurodivergent students showcases the adaptability and scope of this educational model. These institutions cater to a variety of learning needs and styles, with many utilizing Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account funds to make education accessible and personalized. As microschools continue to evolve, they offer a compelling alternative to conventional schooling by prioritizing small, tailored learning experiences that prepare students for real-world challenges. Science Prep continues its winning streak!! Students received gold medals at our Special Olympics Basketball competition on Thursday. They demonstrated PRIDE by playing as a team and cheering each other on throughout the day. Thank you to all our parents who came out to cheer them on. I was told we had the biggest cheering section. Go SPA! Speaking of cheering sections, don’t forget next Saturday, February 17th, our First TECH team will be competing in our first state championship at Brophy College. Students need to be there by 7:45 am to prepare but the competition begins at 9:00 am. We will be holding a Pep Rally send-off on Thursday, February 15th at 2:00 pm. All families are invited to show their support and cheer them on. We are so excited!

Free Employment Skills Course for Parents of Autistic Students It’s one of the biggest fears of parents who have a child with autism: Will your child be able to support himself or herself by living and working independently after high school? Statistically speaking, young adults with #autism have lower employment rates and higher rates of social isolation than people with other disabilities. Two-thirds of young people with autism did not have a job two years after high school, according to a report from the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute at Drexel University—and only 58 percent ever have a job for pay outside of the home.
