But did you know that CO₂ is also a powerful tool for firefighting? 🔥 Here’s how it works: when you shake a bottle of cola and then open it, the pressure release causes the liquid to spray out. Now, picture directing that burst of pressure at a fire. When CO₂ is rapidly released, it expands and pushes out the oxygen in the area. Since fire relies on oxygen to burn, removing it is a highly effective way to extinguish flames. In short, using CO₂ to combat fires involves displacing oxygen and cooling the material, effectively suffocating the fire and stopping it from spreading.
