🌟 July is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month! 🌟 Did you know children can develop arthritis just like adults? Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells, causing pain, swelling, stiffness and loss of motion in joints. At Scottish Rite for Children, our Rheumatology clinic cares for more than 4,500 kids annually, providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary care. Join us in raising awareness for children living with juvenile arthritis. These young warriors demonstrate incredible strength and resilience every day! 💪❤️ #JuvenileArthritisAwarenessMonth #JIA #YoungWarriors #AutoimmuneDisease

  • Shane Miller, M.D., FAAP, pediatric sports medicine physician at Scottish Rite, joined the crew on Good Day Fox 4 to share summer camp safety tips. Miller used his expertise to explain what parents should look out for when sending their children to camp. From making sure children are getting enough water and rest breaks to learning what the plan is in the event of an injury, Dr. Miller has all the answers. Thanks to KDFW-TV FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth for having us on! ☀️

  • Juneteenth marks the day all enslaved people in Texas were made aware of their liberation following the Civil War. It’s a celebration of freedom, a chance to celebrate African American culture and an opportunity to reflect on how we can move forward. The holiday’s establishment is largely thanks to Dr. Opal Lee from Fort Worth, whose tireless efforts led to Juneteenth’s national recognition. The bill to make June 19th a federal holiday was introduced by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18) in 2020. The flags used to represent Juneteenth include the red and blue Juneteenth flag and the green, black and red Pan-African flag, which symbolize the ongoing fight for freedom and unity. • Introducing Steel, a four-year-old sports fanatic and Super Mario Brothers enthusiast from Kentucky! 🎉 With his infectious personality and unshakeable optimism, Steel lights up every room he enters and spreads smiles wherever he goes. Whether he's playing basketball, football, soccer, golf, baseball, or just imagining epic adventures, Steel always sees the glass half full and spreads joy to everyone around him! 🏀🏈⚽️🏌️♂️⚾️✨ Born with bilateral clubfeet, Steel faced many challenges and years of treatment at various healthcare facilities. Despite these efforts, he still struggled to run without falling. Seeking a second opinion, his family turned to Scottish Rite for Children. Upon learning Steel's clubfoot had relapsed, they moved from Kentucky to Dallas for two months, allowing Steel to receive weekly castings and surgery, paving the way for his remarkable recovery. From the moment they walked in the door, every doctor, nurse, therapist, volunteer and cafeteria worker at Scottish Rite made Steel and his family feel welcome, understood and special. Dr. Riccio went above and beyond to address every question and concern they had. After years of feeling like their concerns for Steel were being ignored, being at Scottish Rite was incredibly comforting and validating. ❤️ Before treatment, Steel couldn't keep up with his peers while playing. Now, he is thriving and proudly shows everyone his “straight feet.” Steel's journey has been one of resilience and joy, transforming his challenges into triumphs and inspiring everyone he meets.🌟 #BilateralClubfeet #ScottishRiteforChildren #PediatricOrthopedics
