When emergency medicine and hospital medicine programs operate in silos, conflicts can arise that impact cost efficiency, patient experience, patient safety, clinician satisfaction, and consistency of care. However, when these programs are aligned, the quality and efficiency of care significantly improve. So, how can you help your emergency and hospital medicine programs work better together? 1) Establish a Joint Operations Committee (JOC). A JOC is a multidisciplinary meeting developed to facilitate communication and teamwork between EM, HM, and key stakeholders within the hospital. Its primary purpose is to optimize patient care by identifying opportunities for improvement, developing new care protocols, and implementing rapid-cycle changes through an iterative approach. Benefits of implementing a JOC include: ➮ Enhanced collaboration and communication ➮ Improved patient outcomes and experience ➮ Increased operational efficiency ➮ Greater clinician satisfaction ➮ Streamlined processes leading to financial stability Who should be part of the JOC? ➮ EM and HM medical directors ➮ Hospital administration members ➮ Nursing directors ➮ Case managers ➮ Other key stakeholders interacting with emergency and hospital medicine services It's time to bridge the gap between emergency and hospital medicine programs. By bringing your teams together through a Joint Operations Committee, you can foster a unified vision and shared accountability that elevates patient care and operational performance.

Today is World Mental Health Day—a time to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and advocate for mental health care for all. Mental health is as important as physical health. Let's support one another, promote open conversations, and prioritize mental well-being in our communities. Remember, it's okay not to be okay. Reach out, listen, and be there for each other. #TogetherWeHeal
