The food sector contributes to nearly one-quarter of the world’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, and nearly one-half of the world’s methane emissions. Decarbonisation of this sector will be pivotal to achieving the planet’s net-zero goals and Paris-aligned 1.5C targets. Myriad decarbonisation opportunities exist across the water-energy-food nexus from upstream farming, to mid-stream processing and supply chain, to downstream packaging and consumption. Nevertheless, these require significant upfront investments and risk capital to be piloted and deployed at scale. Carbon financing offers a promising opportunity for impact entrepreneurs to fund low-carbon innovations across the value chain. Various estimates place the size of the Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCM) between $10 billion to $250 billion by 2030. Earlier this year, Sculpt Partners partnered with the WE4F (Water and Energy for Food) to publish a carbon financing guide for impact entrepreneurs that operate in the agriculture, farming and affordable energy sectors. The guide provides a step-by-step approach for impact enterprises starting from how to estimate the volume of carbon credits all the way till how to monetize them by structuring suitable contracting strategies with buyers. We encourage impact entrepreneurs to peruse this guide to better understand their readiness to implement a carbon financing program for their organisations. https://lnkd.in/gYPRF8ZJ Sculpt Partners Water and Energy for Food Grand Challenge #FoodandAgrisector #Decarbonisation #CarbonFinancing #CarbonCredits #VoluntaryCarbonMarkets

The European Union (EU) Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) has gone live with reporting obligations beginning October 2023. In essence, the CBAM is a “tariff” on certain carbon-intensive goods exported to the EU. While developing countries will continue to oppose CBAM during and after COP-28, it will precipitate introduction of country-specific carbon pricing regulations and expedite corporate net-zero transition in these economies. In our latest publication, we unpack the cost and margin impacts of CBAM for India. Inc, the suite of potential decarbonisation solutions, and select success stories.
