Public policy has a direct impact on the communities across Washington. CEO Amy Martinez is in Olympia this week advocating for our region. Yesterday she was joined by Latine business owner, Magali Barajas from J. Barajas Trucking, LLC who received financial support through the Community Reinvestment Project funded through the Washington State Department of Commerce. Legislative decisions impact the workforce. Join us in standing up for individuals, entrepreneurs, and industry across Washington! #CommunityReinvestment #EcSA #Advocacy #localworkforceworks

Black History Week was launched in 1926 to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and abolitionist/writer Frederick Douglass (February 14). Congress expanded it to National Black History Month 50 years later. Black History Month reminds us of the importance of equality, justice, and unity. The 2025 theme, "African Americans and Labor," is a powerful reflection on the pivotal role that the hard work of African Americans has played in shaping our country’s history.

Community Reinvestment Plan Managing Director @ Washington State Department of Commerce | Public Policy
The Washington State Department of Commerce has awarded $197.18 million in over 400 contracts through the Community Reinvestment Project (CRP) to create lasting economic benefits, build wealth and ensure everyone has a fair chance at success. The program has supported 3,504 small businesses with grants and workforce partnerships, distributing over $1.9 million so far to fuel growth and skill development. Over 2,379 individuals have gained valuable skills and career opportunities through coaching, job training, and the EcSA Career Initiative, which has distributed over $10.8 million in career incentives as people work towards their goals. Prior to the launch of CRP funds, 27% of EcSA Job Seekers were from Black, Latine, and Tribal communities. In the first nine months, that number has increased to 51%, marking significant progress in reaching and supporting these communities and advancing equity. In some areas, the impact is even greater—83% of participants served in South Central and 93% in Seattle-King County represent these communities.
