📢 This past weekend we celebrated welcoming home 57 households at the Village Green Apartments! This is a major win for the San Diego community. Thanks to Wakeland Housing for connecting families in need to our dedicated Disaster Case Managers. A heartfelt thank you to Council President Sean Elo-Rivera, J.D. and Congresswoman Sara Jacobs for their support and recognition of VOAD’s ongoing efforts in connecting families in need with critical resources as a result of the Jan 22nd 2024 Flooding. There’s much work ahead as we continue to support San Diego flood survivors. Together, working in partnership we can continue making progress and create a positive impact in lives of San Diegans who were affected by the Jan 22nd floods. 🚨 Weekly VOAD Update 🚨 ✅Our Case Managers will be at Chollas Meade Elementary for the Back to School Resource Fair from 3-4 pm! We’ve provided 3 pallets of consumables to support flood-impacted households. ✅Millennial Tech Middle School and Webster Elementary will receive 2-3 pallets of consumables as well. 🗂️Disaster Case Managers have helped 193 households with new items from VOAD. #SDVOAD #SanDiegoFloodRelief #sdvoadupdate

🚧 Stormwater Maintenance Alert 🚧 The @cityofsandiego Stormwater Department is performing maintenance on stormwater infrastructure on the ocean view 1 channel between Ocean View and National Ave near 42nd st We’re grateful to see this critical maintenance work being done! This work follows up on the emergency repairs done earlier this year after the Jan 22nd floods. We hope to continually see regrowth and other issues addressed by the city. This is a positive step in the right direction. 🔧 What’s Happening: • Improving hydraulic capacity • Reducing flood risks to nearby homes and infrastructure • Clearing overgrown vegetation and standing water • Removing trash and debris to enhance water quality and prevent blockages downstream 📅 When: Work started on 8/12/2024 and is expected to last up to 2 weeks, weather permitting. Repost : United Way of San Diego County When life-threatening flooding impacted San Diego County in January 2024, many families had their lives upended as the floods destroyed their residences and displaced them from their homes. The floods, which impacted Southeast San Diego particularly hard, displaced over 1,200 households and caused over $30 million in damage. In response, United Way of San Diego County (UWSD) and SDG&E have partnered together to provide $180,000 in support to two nonprofit organizations helping Southeast San Diego residents affected by this disaster rebuild their homes. HARVEY FAMILY FOUNDATION and the San Diego Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) Each received $90,000 to assist with housing repairs, housing restoration, the provision of materials and appliances, and more. SDG&E and UWSD are dedicated to standing by community members, providing support during these trying times, and ensuring the recovery process is as smooth as possible.
