When we invest in young girls and their dreams, we invest in a better future. On #internationaldayofthegirlchild, meet Stella—one of our Youth Talk Volunteers in South Sudan. Stella is a role model for many young girls in our cohorts. She dreams of becoming a midwife to support and care for girls in her community. Through Youth Talk, young girls like Stella have a platform to speak on the radio on important issues, including gender-based violence and early child marriage. End violent conflict. It’s our purpose — our call to action.
About us
Search for Common Ground is the world's largest dedicated peacebuilding organization. Founded in 1982 and nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018, Search for Common Ground works to transform the way the world deals with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative problem solving. We work with local partners to find culturally appropriate means to strengthen societies' capacity to deal with conflicts constructively: to understand the differences and act on the commonalities. Our mission is to transform the way the world deals with conflict: away from adversarial approaches, toward cooperative solutions. We have developed a broad array of operational methods, which we call collectively our "toolbox." These include well-known conflict resolution techniques, such as mediation and facilitation, and less traditional ones, like TV productions, radio soap opera, and community organising. We have found that employing several tools at the same time increases their overall effectiveness.

When peace processes fail, it's often because communities feel disconnected from the agreements signed at the table. So how do we build trust beyond the negotiation room? Join us (whether online or in person) at the “Trustbuilding from the table to the streets: Inclusive Strategies for Sustainable Peace” panel at Geneva Peace Week as we explore the ‘toolbox’ of trustbuilding strategies, the design of mediation processes, engagement with institutions and the role of community-based mediators in securing sustainable peace. The details: 📆 16 October 2024 🕤 9:00-10:30 CET 📍/💻 GCSP- 4th Floor (Pétale 4) - Hybrid 🔗 Register today: https://bit.ly/4dJIxEM Interpeace | Berghof Foundation

🕊️🌱 Peace and climate change are intertwined. That’s why at the upcoming COP29 we, as part of the Peace@COP collective, are calling for climate change policy to be more peace-responsive and conflict-sensitive. Climate change is estimated to have influenced up to 20% of armed conflict risk over the last century, a figure that is likely to increase dramatically in the coming decade. In turn, armed conflicts have contributed to the climate crisis both directly, through environmental destruction and military greenhouse gas emissions, as well as indirectly, by disrupting the systems needed to manage and protect the environment as well as by impacting sustainable resource use. In our newest policy paper, we’re tackling eight core environmental, climate change, conflict and peace issues, and providing actionable recommendations that key decision-makers can enact or demand within the UNFCCC negotiations at COP29. 🔗 Discover our recommendations on topics such as climate finance, climate justice, the green transition, and much more: https://lnkd.in/dj_wbryM - 🌐 The Peace@COP collective brings together experts from 300+ organizations across the #peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development sectors, all with an interest in making climate change policy more peace-responsive and conflict-sensitive. #PeaceAtCOP

The only victory in the Middle East will be lasting peace: A letter from our Palestinian & Israeli Country Directors on October 7th, 2024 "Peace is always possible, even now. But we must have the courage to believe in it and the determination to make it a reality. Only then can Israelis and Palestinians live with dignity, security, and hope for our shared future."

Right now, thousands of families in Lebanon are fleeing their homes due to escalating conflict, seeking safety in already struggling communities. These families, many of whom include young children, are facing unimaginable hardship and uncertainty. The increase in loss of life and displacement is rapidly worsening. We need your help to provide life-saving relief: ▶ $50 delivers emergency food and medical aid to displaced families. ▶ $75 creates child-friendly spaces where children can find safety, play, and receive psychosocial support. ▶ $100 provides mental health services to help those coping with the trauma of violence. Donate and show your support for Lebanon: https://lnkd.in/etS7mp7D
