Marine debris has met its match! 🌎🌊 As part of our partnership with Keep Massachusetts Beautiful (nonprofit) and the Clean Coast Coalition, Seaside Sustainability's in-person team took our PixieDrone to Cripple Cove Landing to clean up the waste concentrated in Gloucester Harbor. Although there was a large presence of seaweed at the surface of the water, the team was able to sort through the debris and enter it for data collection. The collected litter included cigarette butts, plastic food packaging, and nurdles. Thanks to a host of sponsors, a coalition of organizations, and hard working volunteers we cleared the channel in Alewife Brook in advance of the fall outbound river herring migration. This was last done in 2021 but plants had again impeded the channel. We scheduled four days of volunteers, but were able to complete the work in just two!
