Happy #motivationalmonday Ocean Guardians! Here is your round of positive climate news to start the week 💙🌊

New York City was a biodiverse #sea of big ideas, bright minds and glowing lights last week during #NYClimateWeek 🌊 We were proud to be in town with our team to make a splash at The Explorers Club with our artist pal Benjamin Von Wong to unveil the official sneak-peak of our plans for how we will be collaborating to connect our love for the ocean — to the dire need to protect and restore biodiversity around the globe at the upcoming Biodiversity COP16 event in Colombia ( one of the most biodiverse & surf-blessed counties in the world). 🌎 It's got something to do with a 2 story #Jenga game tower ( where each block represents a different ecosystem including coral reefs, mangrove forests , seagrass meadows and more ) that will be placed right in the middle of the #BlueZone at COP16, where delegates from around the world will have to pass by Benjamin Von Wong’s towering Biodiversity Jenga art installation everyday for a week — which symbolizes of the perilous game that humans playing with the health of our ocean planet's marine & terrestrial ecosystems , that we all depend on for healthy food, fresh air and clean water. SeaTrees is stoked to partner with Benjamin and his team to bring this type of creative activism to the world stage, to put solving the Biodiversity crisis on par with reversing the Climate crisis — and we were stoked to hear both the Colombian Ambassadors to the U.S. and the UN speak at @the_explorers_club that night about how the COP16 Colombia conference had the exact same goal. In addition to the #activism — SeaTrees will also be bringing a new tool along with us to COP16, that could be a Game Changer for our ongoing efforts to restore & protect coastal ecosystems — as well as all the Biodiversity that calls those ecosystems home ! Still feels like a #dream! ☁️🌙 Last week, our Partnerships Director, Haley Jain Haggerstone, made her way to Dreamforce in San Francisco for the third year in a row. This incredible conference, dedicated to the power of Salesforce, is a game-changer for us at SeaTrees. We rely on Salesforce to nurture supporter relationships, manage donations, and streamline our inventory. At the event, Haley immersed herself in inspiring sessions that showcased innovative ways nonprofits harness Salesforce to amplify their missions. The insights gained are sure to elevate our impact and drive our mission forward! Thank you Salesforce and Dreamforce for having us this year 💙☁️

Day one of #ClimateWeekNYC is in the books. Taking a breather from day two to reflect… Proud to represent APTIM and Sustainable Sport Index at this global gathering, and the day was filled with circularity, sustainability and sports. Starting with Deloitte on circularity, inspired to attend from a webinar organized by Scot Case of National Retail Federation. David Rakowski led a discussion that included insights from Ivonne Bojoh around the state of industry, Quentin Drewell about speaking a common language, Robert Metzke about a systems approach, and Kathryn James about new go to market business models. Key takeaways? A common language - a global protocol - can help drive 76 gigatons of carbon out!, disclosures encourage competition, and policy can be an accelerant… The icing on top? Running into former WM colleagues Thomas Carpenter and Bob Hartmann and hear about all of their great work in circularity Next stop - #SolutionsHouse. Here the Green Sports Alliance cohosted a panel with Futerra around the sports industry, with representatives from the National Hockey League (NHL), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Basketball Association (NBA), and NASCAR. Some key takeaways - that partners make a big difference, and when they align with the business and community goals of the leagues real change happens. Lucy Shea discussed impact spheres, Omar Mitchell discussed community rink programs and engaging youth, Riley Nelson discussed new explorations into electrification, Melanie Lee discussed scaling sustainability further with one of their new key sustainability partners, and Annie Horn discussed partnering with The Cool Down on creative messaging so it can be fun, educational and inspirational and reach fans where they are. Aileen McManamon brought it all together on how the GSA can play the role of convener, and help create a community where collaboration and best practices can thrive. Icing on top? Another former colleague from WM! Great to see Lee Spivak and his team who are at the center of many of these initiatives. Last stop - Columbia University. A beautiful campus and great way to end the day with more sports and the opportunity it presents to advance human health, competition, and the spirit of play while also encouraging the responsibility to educate around climate change. The global playground depends on it. The evening began with a fireside chat with Shaun A. Hoyte, Steven Cohen and Scott Rosner to discuss the state of the industry and academia’s role. Another great panel convened with Elizabeth Burakowski for a science based perspective, Amie Engerbretson with an athlete/activist perspective (who’s livelihood literally depends on it), a back to back appearance from Riley and Omar, and the always inspiring Michael Richter who has taken his passion from the ice to the business world. A LOT of networking and inspiration. It’s a marathon, not a sprint… more to come from day two…

Best sail yet! A labor of mostly love and hopeful intention, Carolynn Box (cbox) and I developed the Textile x Ocean Connector Sail to bring people together to find inspiration the way we had - connecting science and solutions across solos and functions that don’t normally get the chance to work together. And, most importantly, in an environment that inspires creativity, deeper connections, and joy. With the winds in your sails, the sun on your face, the boat constantly moving under your feet, and the smell of ocean filling your nose- you don’t feel separate from nature… So finding creative ways to collaborate and work together to solve for crucial and complex issues like climate change, fiber fragment release, environmental justice, textile waste, biodiversity and more…feels a little less daunting. I will be sharing more soon but wanted to thank the incredible crew that showed up and brought their amazing questions and ideas (and hands-on material samples!), our wonderful speakers, our sponsors (the California Chapter of AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists)and COYUCHI, and the steadfast Call of the Sea volunteers and staff!

The Futureswell team has been busy at #nycw building new partnerships and working to platform ocean in the #climatemovement 🌊 The last 3 days have included speaking sessions on blue jobs at the Brown Girl Green Green Jobs Pavilion, at the science summit discussing solutions on island resilience, and a number of meetings with governments and colleagues discussing pressing ocean issues like protecting the Pacific at scale and stopping #deepseamining. It was a beautiful week connecting with old friends, colleagues, and growing the Futureswell network across the world!
