Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee

Our WBIR-TV 10Serves community service program took us to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee to support the organizations "Pack the Bag" campaign which began yesterday and continues through May 14th. The program provides identified children in East Tennessee schools and their families with healthy, easy-open food bags for the weekend and during extended breaks. This afternoon our employees packed 5 pallets of food which will serve over 500 meals!! Thank you to Elaine Streno and her team for the opportunity for our team to volunteer and give back to our East Tennessee community. Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee will be closed Friday, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th in observance of Good Friday and Easter.

Happy National Chili Day! Our phenomenal partners at Bush's Beans are celebrating by sharing the chili love — for every chili photo shared to their Instagram story, Bush’s will donate 1 can of chili beans to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee. We’re thrilled to be teaming up for this initiative, and we’re so grateful for their dedication to fighting hunger and feeding hope right here in our community! We're so grateful to have Chick-fil-A Restaurants's support behind our Food for Kids program. Through our partnership with Feeding America®, Second Harvest has been able to provide an incredible 13,810 nutritious, kid-friendly meals to the 1,105 children in Sevier County currently participating in the Food for Kids program. Thank you, Chick-fil-A Restaurants, for ensuring kids across East Tennessee are able to receive the fuel they need to learn and grow!

What a week! It’s been an honor to work alongside our KEMA emergency responders to ensure we’re aligning food resources to keep our community fed. A huge thanks to Rachael Ellis and Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee and for their support.  I have been so amazed at the social connectedness of our community- from chefs, to churches, nonprofit groups, government agencies, grocers, and grassroots organizations — we have truly come together in a way that brings me joy, gratitude, and hope. I look forward to bringing this collaborative energy to our Food System planning retreat this Friday as we look towards a future with a just, equitable food system rooted in community.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Tennessee is thrilled to be part of the Popeyes Foundation “Serving with Love” initiative. The Popeyes Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness and funds to strengthen communities with food and support in times of need. Through our partnership with the Popeyes Foundation, Second Harvest was able to host a Mobile Pantry that provided over 15,000 pounds of food to about 750 of our neighbors. We’re so grateful for the Popeyes Foundation’s support and their commitment to fighting hunger and feeding hope in East Tennessee — and across the country.
