How do you feel about AI video analysis workplace productivity monitoring? What are the mental health impacts? Is sitting in front of a screen evidence of productivity? Is a 1 minute countdown timer appropriate? Does a surveillance based compliance score provide a net benefit to an employer after weighing the concerns? To balance these questions it's important to note this isn't new, it's just a newer technology tactic of a long used workforce management approach. In call centers associates have been measured for decades by their time on calls vs transitions and breaks coupled with sentiment analysis of the discussions and satisfaction survey scores after calls conclude. In many ways this video analysis is less intrusive than the approaches which have been in place for years and it provides far less helpful insights. (For example: Some associates are more effective taking calls wirelessly and pacing, or they might be looking at the screen playing freecell) It's a fascinating time to be in technology!
