Self-Help is a family of nonprofit organizations whose mission is to create and protect ownership and economic opportunity for all. Since Self-Help's founding in 1980, it has grown to include two credit unions, a loan fund, and a research and policy development group that supports those outside of the economic mainstream. Specifically, we: * Help borrowers build wealth by providing fair and responsible mortgages and small business loans in North Carolina, California and other parts of the nation. * Strengthen under-served communities by financing affordable housing, childcare centers, public charter schools, faith-based organizations, and community-focused commercial real estate projects. * Research and report on financial markets to support policies and industry practices that lower the cost of poverty and promote ownership.

Did you know that Opportunity Finance Network (OFN) was originally founded as the National Association of Community Development Loan Funds (NACDLF)? Back then, a small but growing number of community-focused lenders, what we now call #CDFIs, were seeking ways to strengthen their impact. NACDLF was formed to support these mission-driven lenders, paving the way for inclusive, community-driven finance across the U.S. Fast forward 40 years, and our mission to help low-income, low-wealth, and other underserved people and communities thrive is stronger than ever! We're excited to celebrate our journey at next week's #OFN40 Conference and look ahead to an even brighter future. As Latino and Hispanic Heritage Month ends, we continue to celebrate these vibrant cultures by highlighting the vital role remittances play in Latino and Hispanic American finances. In 2023, remittances to Latin America and the Caribbean rose by 7.7%, reaching a record $155 billion—primarily sent from the U.S. #HispanicHeritageMonth #EconomicImpact #SelfHelp

According to the United Nations, there are more than 476 million Indigenous peoples living in 90 countries all over the world. In fact, Indigenous people comprise 6.2% of the world’s population. For many, Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a time for reflection and remembrance. A great way to commemorate Indigenous Peoples' Day is to educate yourself and others on Indigenous and Native American culture, contributions, and history. You can also contribute to charities and causes that support indigenous people. Parade Magazine offers several good options, including: - American Indian College Fund, which provides scholarships for Native American students. - American Indian Policy Center, which provides government leaders and policymakers with accurate legal and historical information. - American Indigenous Business Leaders support the education and development of indigenous-owned businesses. - The Association of American Indian Affairs provides aid in drafting integral legislation for indigenous people, including the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, and the Tribal Governmental Tax Status Act and the Indian Child Welfare Act. - First Nations Development Institute supports economic development and education for Native communities. - Native American Heritage Association provides financial aid to those in need living on reservations in South Dakota. - Native American Rights Fund fights to preserve Native American rights and tribal resources.

Pay yourself first means to designate a certain amount to go to savings before any other bills are paid. People have the most success when they have 10% of their paycheck directly deposited into a savings account. If you don’t see it, you won’t miss it. #SavingsSunday #GrowWealth #PayYourself
