Making Live Art Accessible for All

About us

Sensory Stages is a neurodivergent owned neurodiversity consulting firm for sensory-friendly services designed to create an inclusive and enjoyable theater experience for all. From sensory-friendly performances to sensory sensitivity accommodations, we are committed to making live theater and all performing arts a welcoming space for individuals' diverse needs. Current estimates show that 15%-20% of the population is considered to be neurodivergent, with 5%-15% of the general population experiencing sensory sensitivities affecting their ability to enjoy everyday opportunities. Many of these individuals immediately rule out live theater as compatible to their needs. With the current state of the American Theater struggling to get new patrons in seats, it is time to make sure we are opening the theater to all. With over 20 years of collective experience, Sensory Stages is a dedicated team of theater professionals, neurodiversity advocates, and experts in the field of neurodiversity. Our collective experience and knowledge enables us to provide specialized consulting services that cater to the diverse needs of theater companies, educational institutions, and creative organizations. Using our expert crafted curriculum developed by years of collaboration with other sensory friendly experts, theater professionals, behavior analysts, diagnosticians, and other DEI professionals; we hope to make your organization a more inclusive place for all by providing: -“Neurodiversity in the Theater” Workshop -Accessibility and Inclusivity Audits -Network of Neurodiverse Performers and Talent Development, Playwrights, and Directors -On-site Hands On Sensory Friendly Performance Consulting Let's help make the arts accessible for all. Thank you so much to Houston Grand Opera for having us out to help work on their Opera 2 Go’s production of Katie: Strongest of the Strong. Can an opera actually be compatible for individuals with sensory sensitivities? Yes, they can. And the many patrons in attendance that left with a smile feeling safe and understood are proof. Let’s continue to make all live art accessible for all.
