In the wake of Hurricane Helene, we are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from our SGMC Health family and community. 🙌❤️ Several physician spouses, their children, and friends joined forces with our dedicated team members to assemble care boxes filled with essential food and supplies for employees in need. When an SGMC Health team member is in need, we all jump into action! 💙 Hurricane Helene brought unique challenges, and limited access to essentials like nonperishable food, water, ice, cleaning supplies, toiletries, tarps, and gas quickly became apparent. Unable to drive Friday morning, Erin made the incredible decision to walk approximately 7 miles to the hospital! 💪🚶♀️ Halfway there, a kind gentleman with a tractor saw Erin’s determination and gave her a lift the rest of the way. The ✨remarkable✨ team at SGMC Women's Health Patterson has shown us the true spirit of teamwork over the past week! ❤️ While their office has tree damage and is without power, they have stepped up at SGMC Health Main to meet any and all needs. Team members have cleaned floors, washed windows, escorted patients to their destination, driven courtesy carts, and worked in departments that they are unfamiliar with. OBGYNS Pam Temples, MD, and Nikki Yarbrough, DO, have stayed at the hospital to deliver babies and see patients in need. 👶 This group of women has gone above and beyond in so many ways, and we are so grateful! SGMC Health leadership visited our Lanier Campus to assess the unique needs of our team members in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. With most of the town still without power and water—and a countywide boil water advisory in effect—we knew additional support was needed. In response, a washer and dryer were installed on-site to ensure our staff can clean their clothes, and care boxes filled with nonperishable food, water, and essential supplies were assembled at our main campus and taken to the team in Lakeland. Additionally, we served a complimentary hot meal to the team, who were all smiles despite it all! During and after Hurricane Helene, the true value of having two hospitals serving Lowndes County and the region became more evident than ever. 🏥🏥 The incredible team at SGMC Health Smith Northview worked relentlessly to provide uninterrupted care to our community. ❤️ Even without air conditioning, computers, or internet in the immediate aftermath, they were not deterred and met an unprecedented surge in patients with true commitment.
