Turnagain Marine Construction led the design/build team, which included CRW Engineering Group, Inc. #ShannonWilsonAnchorage provided geotechnical and hydrogeological engineering services which included upland and offshore explorations to characterize subsurface soil and rock conditions and foundation recommendations for the terminal building and associated land-side improvements, waterfront improvements, and offshore docking facilities. Mile High Flood District (MHFD) and City and County of Denver (CCD), Globeville Levee Improvements We are thrilled that the Mile High Flood District and City and County of Denver are advancing with design and construction for the Globeville Levee Improvements project, which will upgrade the existing levee and flood control system along the west bank of the South Platte River in North Denver. This project involves raising the existing earthen embankment levee and floodwalls to improve existing levees and to avoid floodplain re-designation. According to CCD/MHFD, a 100-year flood event (under current conditions and leading to a spill) would impact over 700 structures. MHFD and CCD are wrapping up design and are heading toward construction for Phase II, anticipated to begin soon. Project Highlight: Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility Capital Improvements (CVWRF) Owner: Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility Client: Brown and Caldwell Since 2018, our #ShannonWilsonSaltLakeCity office has been providing geotechnical engineering and construction observation services for the CVWRF Capital Improvements project. This project presented unique challenges as we worked around extensive and variable undocumented fills, previously abandoned and buried structures, and active operations. Our geotechnical site investigation included 10 Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs) and 29 borings. We provided geotechnical recommendations related to lightly loaded shallow footings, fully compensated mat foundations, auger cast piles, ground improvement, light weight fill and seismic conditions (ground acceleration and liquefaction potential). Our construction services included settlement monitoring, subgrade observations and deep foundation observations.
