As a vocal advocate and leader for our neighbors experiencing homelessness, our Chief Impact Officer, Amber Sheikh, was asked to provide her perspective on the recent executive order issued by Governor Newsom regarding homeless encampments (from the Daily Breeze): "Amber Sheikh, a member of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority Commission, noted that while the order could help smaller cities to take action to address homelessness — it could negatively impact regional efforts to effectively handle the issue. 'Arresting our way out of homelessness will never be the answer,' Sheikh said, 'and honestly, simply moving people around various jurisdictions with varying rules won’t do it either.' ” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gTyVcTB3

We were honored to receive the small business award at the SAN PEDRO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Installation & Award lunch last week! San Pedro is thriving because of community-focused businesses. They understand that if one of us succeeds, then we all do! This is also the cornerstone of how our Chief Impact Officer, Amber Sheikh, operates her business... "My goal, when taking over the firm, was to create a place of belonging and a place where our organizational culture emulated what we wanted the nonprofit industry to look like — so it was about equity, bringing our team to the table, sharing profits, and about making things better. Having a strong team is what makes all the difference and all of it possible." Also, our Vice President Operations, Tammy Khan, was installed as one of the newest members of the Chamber's board of directors. We congratulate her on this new leadership role. Congratulations to all of the award recipients - you make San Pedro a special place to live, work, and visit! Thank you to the Chamber board members for investing your time for our community - we appreciate you!

On Tuesday, our Chief Impact Officer, Amber Sheikh, CFRE Sheikh, was appointed to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority Commission (LAHSA), following a unanimous vote by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Appointed at the recommendation of Supervisor Janice Hahn, Amber joins the 10-member LAHSA Commission as District 4’s representative. LAHSA is an independent, joint powers authority that coordinates housing and services for homeless families and individuals in Los Angeles County. Advocating for neighbors experiencing homelessness is Amber’s bedrock. Her appointment to LAHSA will enable her to continue to work she has been doing to address one of today's most critical issues.
