June is Cataract Awareness Month! Did you know that cataracts are one of the leading causes of vision loss worldwide? It's time to shine a light on this common yet often overlooked condition. Here are a few key points to keep in mind: 👁️ What are cataracts? Cataracts develop when the lens of your eye becomes cloudy. This causes decreased or blurred vision or glare symptoms. 📊 Who is at risk? While aging is the most common cause, cataracts can affect people of all ages. Other risk factors include diabetes, smoking, prolonged exposure to UV light, and some medications. Recent studies also suggest that if you live in high altitudes or spend more time in the sun that you may have more risk to develop cataracts. 🔍 Some symptoms to watch for: • Blurry or dim vision • Difficulty seeing at night • Sensitivity to light and glare • Seeing "halos" around lights • Colors seeming faded 💡 Prevention and Treatment: • Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV rays • Maintain a healthy diet rich in vitamins and antioxidants • Get regular eye exams If you experience symptoms, call us at (805) 925-2637 or visit us at www.shepardeye.com. Cataract surgery is a safe and effective way to restore vision. Have your eyes checked annually and let's spread the word and help our loved ones see the world more clearly! #CataractAwarenessMonth #EyeHealth #VisionCare #ShepardEyeCenter #cataractsurgery Feel free to share this post and help raise awareness! 💙

This is what local fine artist Elizabeth had to say after receiving her cataract surgery. “Cataract surgery brought back the color and light in my art and life.” Cataract surgery can change your life for the better and allow you to partake in the activities you’re most passionate about. Cataracts affect 65.2 million people worldwide according to the World Health Organization, and this can cause vision loss in 80% of cases which ranges from moderate to severe. Cataracts can cloud your vision and reduce your quality of life if you aren’t careful. Early detection and treatment can make a world of difference. Keep an eye on your vision health and schedule regular check-ups! 👁️✨ Please call (805) 925-2637 or visit us at www.shepardeye.com to learn more about cataracts and how surgery can help your vision improve! #Cataractawareness #cataractsurgery #cataractawarenessmonth #cataract #ShepardEyeCenter
