On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we reflect on the incredible legacy of hope, justice, and service he left behind. At Shepherd’s Table, our volunteers are the backbone of our mission. Without them, we would not be able to feed the on average 400 meals we serve per day to those in need. Today, we welcomed Dorina, a first-time volunteer, who brought her children along to help. “We try to do something for the community on this day every year”, she shared. A quick search led her to Shepherd’s Table, and she was thrilled to find an opportunity close by to give back with her children by her side. We are deeply grateful for volunteers like Dorina, who exemplify Dr. King’s powerful words: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” #MLKDay #dayofservice #community #hope #volunteer #helpingothers #foodinsecurity

Thanks to your continued support over the past 41 years, we continue to grow and make a meaningful impact in our community. In 2024, we achieved significant milestones, continuing to feed more people in our organization's history, refining our Beyond the Table program to partner with other non-profit organizations that reach specific communities in need, such as Stephen Knolls and Horizons students, resuming full operations at our Eye Clinic, launching our Culinary Skills Training Program (CSTP), and implementing the first year of our strategic plan. Among these accomplishments, we also witnessed inspiring success stories as we successfully graduated our first cohort of the CSTP and are working towards graduating the second cohort. As we reflect on the successes of 2024, we are reminded of the prevalence of food insecurity, with a 16.49% increase in meals served at Progress Place from the previous year. We look forward to embracing new opportunities to broaden our reach, make a greater impact, and continue this meaningful work together!

“There are so many ways you are supporting the whole person with food and a space that is safe. They know that there will always be someone here to help them out with a meal." -Katie Wengert, Shepherd's Table donor Shepherd’s Table thrives on trust—trust from our clients who depend on us daily and trust from donors like you, who believe in our mission. Without the foundation of trust, Shepherd’s Table could not fund the various programs that sustain our clients: our Daily Meals Program, the Resource Center, Clothing Closet, Eye Clinic, Urban Farm and the Culinary Skills Training Program. Your support can impact our community, helping Shepherd’s Table feed and support everyone who walks through our doors. We are currently at 46% of our $500,000 goal for year-end contributions. Please donate today to push us closer to meeting this milestone! We had a full house for our Culinary Skills Training Program Showcase dinner last Thursday and Friday. We are incredibly proud of our seven students: Steph, Damion, DiCarlo, Keon, Donnell, Rabihah and Grant. The students showcased their culinary expertise with a delicious menu featuring French onion soup, mixed greens salad, Cornish hen, fresh ravioli, a cherished family recipe for sweet potato soufflé, and an apple tart. The students also had an opportunity to share what the program means to them and receive a certificate from Councilmember Evan Glass We can’t wait to see where their externships lead them next! #culinary #lifeskills #nonprofit #showcase #dinner #vocational #kitchen #chef #students

We are so proud to announce that our Culinary Skills Training Program (CSTP) students have all passed their ServSafe tests, a food and beverage safety training and certificate program administered by the United States National Restaurant Association. This means that our students are now ready to work at any restaurant and can start looking forward to their externship placements! Congratulations to Grant, Keon, Damion, Steph, DiCarlo, Rabihah and Donnell! Our CSTP students are preparing for their first showcase dinner this evening, where they will put into practice everything they’ve learned over the past 12 weeks and serve a four-course meal to guests. #culinaryskills #career #servsafe #externship #vocationaltraining

“It’s really an eye-opener. Things that you just don’t even think about… people just don’t have. It’s important that Shepherd’s Table can be called upon for individuals to receive things like soap, shampoo, and toothpaste. Things we take for granted.” -Debbie Liang-Fenton, board member and weekly volunteer Debbie knows how essential the Resource Center is for clients, offering items they need weekly—whether it’s using the phone, getting new underwear, or simply finding a notebook and pen. “The Resource Center is one of those vital services at Shepherd’s Table that might not be available elsewhere. It’s a necessary resource that fills a gap not covered by many other facilities. So, any support to help keep it running is truly needed and appreciated.” At the Resource Center, we provide essential day-to-day necessities, including underwear, socks, hats, shirts, hygiene items, and feminine hygiene products. But we go beyond the basics. We also have an eye clinic. As the only free eye clinic in the county, this service is critical—many of our clients have never had their vision checked and are in great need. At the Resource Center we can also help clients make phone calls to their case managers or place calls for them if there is a language barrier. Debbie shares a moment that continues to inspire her: Elizabeth, a Shepherd’s table client, came to the Resource Center a few months ago preparing for a job interview. She needed the confidence to make a great impression and was given a professional interview outfit from the Clothing Closet—and the result was a job offer at a well-known hotel! “This is the story that represents Shepherd’s Table for me. We provide that foundation for people so that they can become self-sufficient, find employment, and eventually housing so that they can live their lives.” Stories like Elizabeth’s are possible because of you. Your donations help provide meals, clothing, and critical resources that empower our neighbors to thrive. Join us in making a difference today. Shepherd’s Table turns 41! Thanks to our ongoing support of donors, volunteers, and other members of the community, we’ve served for 41 years without ever missing a meal. Our mission is that as long as we have neighbors in need, we will be here to help them on their journey. To commemorate this milestone, our Board Members served an anniversary Bright Meal dinner of hearty cabbage and carrots, roasted potatoes, honey buffalo wings, a fresh salad and cake for dessert. #anniversary #birthday #nonprofit #foodinsecurity #brightmeal #boardmembers
