The department would like to recognize an outstanding investigation by Officer Stanley. On 4/23/24 Officer Stanley was dispatched to a suspicious person at a local store using a possibly fraudulent identification. Officer Stanley attempted to contact the suspect who fled the area with an accomplice. Officer Stanely was able to quickly get suspect and vehicle information broadcast to our partner agencies, the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office and Wyoming Highway Patrol, who spotted and stopped the fleeing suspects. Officer Stanely conducted a thorough investigation and learned the suspects were likely involved in a multi-state criminal enterprise. They had been traveling across the country in a rental car using stolen account and personal information to defraud victims. They used the information to obtain new phones in stores and charged the expense of the new device to the victim's account. The suspects allegedly had been traveling from town-to-town in the region, carrying out their fraudulent schemes, profiting thousands of dollars a day. Officer Stanely was able to develop probable cause to charge them with several felony violations. The Sheridan Police Department Detective's Division has assisted other agencies in the investigation of crimes committed elsewhere leading to several felony warrants being filed for the suspects in other jurisdictions. Cases like these show law enforcement working as it should: citizens noticing and reporting possible criminal activity, an Officer responding and doing a complete investigation, and cooperation between agencies to apprehend and hold offenders accountable. This is what law enforcement in Sheridan, Wyoming looks like. The Sheridan Police Department is proud of Officer Stanley's exemplifying the value of making a difference through his professional and thorough criminal investigation. Officer Stanely loves this community and is proud to protect it.
