  • We would like to thank United States Senator Marco Rubio for visiting our community today and spending time in Homosassa. While visiting with our CCSO CERT members, he specifically thanked the team for their invaluable volunteer service. Senator Rubio also pledged his assistance to our community as we continue our recovery operations after Hurricane Helene. Our CERT volunteers, along with other community members, will be out today at the Homosassa Civic Center to pass out needed supplies to residents. There is a wide variety of cleaning supplies and other essentials on hand. We will remain open as long as supplies last. #disasterrecovery #hurricanehelene #ccsocommunity

  • Last week, several CCSO professionals, along with the Florida Highway Patrol, were honored during the Global Security Exchange Conference in Orlando for their role in stopping serial bank robber Jeromee Greenough. 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞: -Communications Training Coordinator Philip Tompkins -Communications Supervisor Josh Weldon -Sergeant Michael Sanchez -Detective Dan Slingerland -Detective Ramon Rivera -Trooper Eric Kjekstad 𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙚: Greenough had recently been released from prison after 19 years for several other bank robberies when he decided to rob the TD Bank in Crystal River in 2022. CCSO quickly located Greenough, who attempted to flee down Fort Island Trail. Despite his attempt to flee, law enforcement effectively used spike strips to stop him. When Greenough exited his vehicle and armed himself with a rifle, he ran towards a playground, posing a serious threat. Greenough was subsequently shot by an FHP Trooper and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was charged with robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and fleeing and eluding law enforcement. Great work to all involved! #CCSOprotecting

  • Did you know the first use of 𝗗𝗡𝗔 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 to solve a crime was in 1986? Since then, forensic science has become a vital tool in law enforcement. It allows us to accurately identify suspects, link evidence to crimes, and even exonerate the innocent. From analyzing fingerprints to DNA, forensic science helps bring justice to victims and makes our communities safer. #NationalForensicSciencesWeek #JusticeInAction #CCSOForensics 1805

  • Here at the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), we strive for excellence in public service in all our agency’s fields. Our citizens deserve to have dedicated professionals working hard to keep them and their loved ones safe every day. For National Forensic Science Week, we want to take time to recognize this team’s contributions to our mission. Since the beginning of 2024, the unit has worked over 250 crime scenes. From these scenes, they have collected over 1,200 items of evidence and completed over 4,000 latent fingerprint comparisons. CCSO’s Forensics Unit is responsible for investigating and processing all types of crime scenes through various forms of documentation, fingerprint development, and evidence collection. Their job is split between on-scene and in the crime lab, where they process the collected items of evidence. This can be completed through a number of different processing techniques that utilize compounds such as Cyanoacrylate ester (Superglue), Rhodamine 6G, Ninhydrin, Wetwop, and Amido Black. Their skills shed light on many cases, helping victims to find justice. We rely on their expert skills to determine the circumstances around a crime – was it a suicide or murder; where was the shooter standing? They look for things like patterns, prints, possible DNA samples, and other factors that can help piece together the crime narrative. "Forensic science has become an increasingly vital tool for law enforcement agencies. Each member of this team has spent years honing their skills so that they can provide us with a precise and objective analysis of evidence at crime scenes. This, in turn, assists us in identifying suspects, verifying timelines, and understanding the circumstances of a crime," said Sheriff Mike Prendergast. "Our Forensics Unit is truly essential to our mission of public safety, and I want to extend my gratitude to this outstanding team for all their hard work and dedication, to making Citrus County the safest community in Florida." #CCSOForensics #CCSO #NationalForensicScienceWeek 1805

  • INVERNESS CRO PROMOTED TO SERGEANT OVER JUDICIAL SERVICES The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), along with Sheriff Mike Prendergast, is proud to announce the promotion of Deputy Shannon Goodman, previously the Inverness Community Resource Officer (CRO), to an applauded advancement as a Sergeant within CCSO’s Judicial Services Division. Each decision made by Deputy Goodman throughout his tenure showcases his commitment to civic duty and natural leadership, earning the trust and admiration of his colleagues and the community. As a Sergeant assigned to the Judicial Services Division, Goodman will be able to share his experience and leadership qualities with the men and women of this division as he showcases excellence in public safety. “Sergeant Goodman exemplifies exceptional leadership qualities through his unwavering courage, integrity, and quick decision-making under pressure. He has dedicated considerable effort and time to the security and service of everyone in Citrus County,” said Sheriff Prendergast. “Throughout his career, Goodman has consistently surpassed the expectations and demands of every role he's undertaken. His knack for engaging with the community has established him as an invaluable asset to the agency. I am confident that he will continue to thrive in his new position, motivating those around him to elevate their own performance.” Goodman began his career with CCSO in 2015, assuming the role of Deputy Sheriff. In 2016, Deputy Goodman dedicated his service to the students of our county, serving as a School Resource Deputy for five years. Over the course of five years, the relationships he developed within the community provided a foundation for his career transition in 2021 to the role of Community Resource Officer in Inverness. In this position, he collaborated with the city to devise safety strategies for municipal buildings and events. Subsequently, Goodman’s exceptional talents led him to a position with our Mobile Command Unit. The Mobile Command Unit responds to various Citrus County’s needs, the majority of which are emergency events such as natural disasters, high-profile criminal incidents, and long-term hostage situations that exceed beyond a particular shift. This continued display of dedication to the well-being and safety of the people of Citrus County laid the groundwork for considering and implementing his promotional status to Division Sergeant. Please join our office in celebrating Sergeant Goodman’s well-earned promotion and this notable milestone in his professional journey. #CCSO #CCSOPromotion #CongratsGoodman 1805
