Second Harvest was proud to participate as one of the service projects this past Saturday for the 4th Annual Love Irvine Serve Day! Volunteers united for the day all across the City of Irvine to give back to the community. At Harvest Solutions Farm, our collaboration with UCANR and Solutions for Urban Agriculture, volunteers, including Cub and Troop Scouts from the Rancho San Joaquin District, helped to harvest fresh honeydew melon that will be delivered to our community partners this week. It's great to see the Irvine community coming together to help our OC neighbors in need! #WeFeedOC #SecondHarvestOC

Thank you to ALDI USA for your generous gift to help us feed OC! This donation supports our Grocery Rescue Program which connects community partners to local grocery stores nearby to pick up food donations on a consistent basis. The food picked up is then distributed to the community free of charge. The Grocery Rescue Program allows our neighbors to consistently access different food and nonfood items such as frozen meat, produce, bakery items, pre-packaged salads, sandwiches, hygiene items and more. #WeFeedOC #SecondHarvest

Second Harvest's innovative solution to senior food insecurity, Park-It Market, serves approximately 2,500 adults above age 60 each month. Nutrition is key for seniors' overall health and wellbeing and it helps them: - Maintain muscle mass and minimize the risk of falls by eating sufficient protein and other nutrition foods. - Stay hydrated to aid digestion because thirst and appetite diminish with age. Skimping on meals can lead to negative health consequences. But when seniors eat a nutritious diet, they can lead healthier lives and remain independent for longer. 7 million seniors could be food insecure by 2050 if we don't act now. In California alone, 668,000 senior citizens are food insecure today. (Feeding America). Take action and host a Virtual Food Drive by visiting https://heyor.ca/7Ypdrf. #WeFeedOC #SecondHarvestOC

🌍🍽️ Today is #WorldFoodDay, and in a nation of abundance, no one should be food insecure. Yet, in Orange County, 1 in 10 individuals and 1 in 8 children is food insecure according to Feeding America. The 2024 Farm Bill is a chance to support farmers, children and the food economy. It provides a pathway toward strengthening access to SNAP (CalFresh) and other food assistance programs for our neighbors, including older adults, college students and low-wage workers. Lawmakers must remove the hurdles that stand in peoples’ way of receiving critical food assistance.
