Transportation and defense sectors are grappling with unprecedented challenges. Whether ensuring the security of mission-critical military vehicles or maintaining the operational readiness of commercial fleets, the ability to access and analyze serial bus data in real time is essential. However, the complexity of onboard networks—often a mix of different protocols and legacy systems—has made this a daunting task. For teams struggling with these challenges, the Shift5 Bus Interface Card (BIC) delivers new capabilities unlike what’s found on the market today. Today, Shift5 introduced the Bus Interface Card (BIC), new hardware that unifies data collection from multiple, disparate protocols across legacy + modern defense and transportation assets, providing more comprehensive data observability across entire fleets. → BIC collects data within 50 milliseconds of power-up, ensuring no data is missed during startup—unlike traditional systems that take 45 seconds or longer. → BIC is the industry's first device that provides malformed data detection, identifying and flagging malformed messages to provide early warning of potential cyber threats or system malfunctions. Through unmatched real-time data capture, diagnostics, and cybersecurity capabilities across a broad range of serial bus protocols, BIC revolutionizes how operators and maintainers manage onboard operational technology (OT) systems. GPS spoofing poses significant risks to the aviation sector, writ large. The Wall Street Journal details new standard operating procedures for pilots, on a flight by flight basis, to account for the risk of GPS manipulation. “If we lose an airplane because of workload issues because of these problems we’re encountering, compounded with an emergency, that is going to be a horrendous event,” said Ken Alexander, the Federal Aviation Administration’s chief scientist for satellite navigation, during a pilot union forum this month in Washington, D.C. https://ow.ly/4pvX50TtBLe #electronicwarfare #GPSspoofing #GPSintegrity

Our nation’s critical defense + transportation infrastructures face a sophisticated landscape of interconnected systems. Operators must sift through thousands of alerts from various assets. Analysts could easily become overwhelmed by a wall of flashing alerts—some critical, some not. Without context, they could spend time fixing a non-urgent issue while overlooking an alert affecting thousands of users. Context is key to cutting through the noise. It empowers operators to prioritize critical issues, focus time and resources where they matter most, and prevent system-wide disruptions. By transforming raw data into actionable intelligence, context allows organizations to make informed decisions that enhance operational efficiency and security.
