Shook seeks attorneys with at least six years of litigation experience to join the General Liability Litigation Practice Group in the firm’s Philadelphia office. Candidates must be licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys fast-paced litigation and has experience with all aspects of defending a case, including taking and defending depositions, working with experts, attending court hearings, drafting and arguing motions and assisting significantly at trial. This position is intended to include a lead role in handling cases and requires an ability to effectively communicate with clients and supervise other case team members. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is familiar with the local judges and court practices and who is comfortable leading case teams and working autonomously. Experience defending personal injury and property damage cases is a plus. Please, no third-party submissions. Shook Partners Pat Kenney and Mark Hegarty and Associates Emily Pedersen, Mary Kate Throckmorton, Daniel Cummings and Colin Murphy championed food security for homeless people when a city hot breakfast program faced claims alleging the service was a common law and statutory nuisance. Shook was asked to help when a group of companies across the street sued the program earlier this year. Shook’s attorneys stepped in to shed light on the plaintiffs' claims, which proved to be overreaching and largely baseless on the behavior of the people receiving the hot breakfast service. After a three-day evidentiary hearing, the plaintiffs' motion for a preliminary injunction was denied, preventing the program from being shut down. A federal court in New York has held that employees engaged in manual labor have a private right of action under New York Labor Law for the untimely payment of earned salary. Shook National Employment Litigation and Policy Chair Bill Martucci and Senior Counsel Maureen Fogel say the ruling leaves the door open for the potential of liquidated damages far exceeding the actual harm suffered by plaintiffs in the latest issue of the National Employment Perspective. Partner Kathleen Frazier and Associate Cesar Udave’s pro bono work secured legal guardianship for clients supporting two children with incapacitating disabilities. Kat and Cesar streamlined the guardianship process for the clients, who had faced the challenges of a language barrier and pandemic delays during previous efforts. Kat and Cesar counseled the clients in Spanish to expedite coordinating and processing the case, and they appeared in probate court on their clients' behalf. Their efforts resulted in providing legal guardianship for two supportive parents. Kat and Cesar were referred through the firm’s longstanding partnership with Houston Volunteer Lawyers.
