Using the power of basketball to bridge opportunity gaps for youth and women.
About us
Shooting Touch is a global sport-for-development organization whose mission is to use the mobilizing power of basketball to bridge health and opportunity gaps for youth and women facing racial, gender, and economic inequalities. Founded in 2007, Shooting Touch Inc. invests in youth and women of color by providing increased access to physical activity and education that encourages healthy habits and personal development. Since its inception, Shooting Touch has grown from a grassroots basketball program in Boston into an international non-governmental organization that has served over 200,000+ youth and women in six different countries. Shooting Touch was founded with the goal of taking the convening power of sport to help improve the lives of youth and women facing race, gender and health opportunity gaps by using basketball to achieve three critical objectives - 1) Provide equal access to physical activity 2) Increase access to health education and health services 3) Promote social change We currently operate two signature sport-for-development programs simultaneously - one in Boston, MA and the other in Eastern Rwanda. The combined organization directly serves over 3,000 youth and women and indirectly impacts an additional 40,000 youth and women every day. We serve - Boston: Over 250 girls, ages 9-17 throughout Greater Boston. Rwanda: Over 3,000 youth, ages 7-21, and 700 women 21+, from 6 rural communities in the Republic of Rwanda’s Eastern and Northern Provinces.

The WNBA playoffs are in full swing, and we’re cheering on the Connecticut Sun as they continue their amazing run! Last month, a group of Shooting Touch Boston (STB) girls and their family members had an unforgettable experience as part of STB’s community partnership with the Sun. They had the chance to ride the Sun team bus to the Mohegan Sun Arena, where they witnessed a hard-fought playoff preview between the Sun and the Minnesota Lynx. The energy was electric and so many beautiful memories were made. We’re proud to partner with the Sun to uplift and inspire the next generation of female athletes. Let’s go Sun! #WNBAPlayoffs #SupportHerGame #GenderEquality #CTSun #ShootingTouch

Last week, Shooting Touch’s impact and staff were recognized at an event hosted by Speak Up Africa and the Basketball Africa League amidst the United Nations General Assembly Meetings in NYC. Shooting Touch co-founder Lindsey Kittredge and Director of International Programming & Strategy Chloe Rothman were in attendance to represent! The event highlighted Shooting Touch Rwanda (STR) Head Coach Fatuma MUKAMUGEMA, who participated in the "Teaming Up: African LeadHERS Mentorship Program" in 2023 alongside her inspiring mentor, Allison Feaster. Fatuma has taken full advantage of this incredible opportunity and is putting her learnings into action as a key leader of STR programs in Bugesera District, Rwanda. Thank you to Marie-Laurence Archambault, Amadou Gallo Fall, Clare Akamanzi, and the whole National Basketball Association (NBA) team, as well as Yacine Diop Djibo, Maelle Ba, and all of our partners who remain committed to uplifting women through sport and using basketball as powerful tool for social impact. It was also wonderful to reconnect with Chrysa Chin, Maya Monroe, Laeticia Amihere, Mélanie Danna, Rémy Rioux, and so many others! #ShootingTouch #Basketball #MoreThanAGame #GenderEquality

Breaking boundaries and championing equality on the global stage! 🏆 Shooting Touch has been spotlighted in UNESCO's Sport for Gender Equality Game Plan - and our Rwanda program is even featured on the cover! View the full Game Plan here: https://lnkd.in/g3AYXwcG This exciting partnership, part of the UNESCO Fit for Life initiative, was revealed at the "Change The Game" Ministerial Forum in Paris, just in time for the 2024 Olympic Games. Our very own Rwanda In-Country Program Director Christelle Umuhoza and National Basketball Association (NBA) star/Board Member Grant Williams shared powerful stories and insights about our programs on a panel at the forum.
