Following the success of Shrieve’s participation in the 2023 edition, Senior Application Engineer, Manuel Muñoz Alonso, will return to deliver an updated presentation titled: “Lubricant Options for Natural Refrigerants: A Lubricant-Refrigerant Interaction Overview Update” Building on last year’s discussion on ammonia (NH₃) and R-744 (CO₂), this year’s presentation will also explore hydrocarbon refrigerants and their role in high-temperature heat pumps (HTHP). With the industry moving towards higher efficiency systems and high-temperature applications, understanding the interaction between lubricants and natural refrigerants is more important than ever. Manuel’s session will equip attendees with technical knowledge to optimize oil selection and system performance under varying working conditions. Now in its third edition, NATURAL REFRIGERANTS is the only event in Romania dedicated exclusively to the refrigeration industry. The two-day conference, exhibition, and networking event brings together over 200 professionals from across the sector, including technicians, engineers, consultants, installers, service providers, and representatives from the food and petrochemical industries. 💭 Reflecting on @ASHRAE 2025: Key Takeaways from Shrieve   Another successful ASHRAE Winter Conference & AHR Expo completed! This year’s event reinforced just how critical innovation, collaboration, and industry leadership are in shaping the future of lubricants, refrigerants, and HVAC&R systems.   The Shrieve team was actively involved in technical committee meetings, engaging with customers, suppliers, and peers to discuss the biggest challenges and opportunities in the industry. ASHRAE Winter Meeting also provided the perfect setting to strengthen relationships with technicians from across the globe. Here are some of our key takeaways: 🔹 Low-GWP Refrigerants Leading the Conversation   With sustainability front and center, the shift toward low and ultra-low GWP refrigerants was a major focus. Many manufacturers showcased cutting-edge solutions, reinforcing the industry’s drive toward greener alternatives.   🔹Efficiency & Decarbonization at the Forefront   From higher-efficiency compressors to next-gen system designs, manufacturers are prioritizing lower carbon footprints. Decarbonization dominated discussions across building design, refrigerant selection, and equipment development.   🔹Heat Pumps Continue Their Rise   With growing global emphasis on electrification and regulatory shifts, heat pumps remain a hot topic. This year’s innovations focused on expanding operational efficiency across wider temperature ranges, making them even more viable in diverse climates.   🔹Technical Committee Leadership & Industry Standards   Shrieve personnel played an active role in multiple Technical Committee meetings and Section 3 activities, contributing to the future of lubricants, refrigerants, and refrigerant system chemistry. As voting members, we continue to influence industry standards and research development.   🔹New Developments in Refrigerant Applications   With eight new #refrigerant applications submitted, ASHRAE demonstrated its role in pushing the boundaries of HVAC&R. Seminar 13, focusing on Low and Ultra-Low GWP Refrigerants and Equipment Compliance for #Decarbonization, was particularly relevant to our work at Shrieve.   🔹Strengthening Global Partnerships   ASHRAE provided an excellent platform to reconnect and build new collaborations with key global OEMs, distributor networks and institutes involved in technical research and advancement.   This event always serves as a reminder of the importance of industry collaboration and technical leadership. During National Chemistry Week, we’re excited to highlight our groundbreaking work in ester-based lubricants, specifically tailored for R-32 refrigerant. The Need for R-32 Specific Lubricants Environmental regulations, including the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, have mandated the phasedown of high-GWP refrigerants, which has pushed the industry to seek alternatives. R-32 is an increasingly popular choice due to its lower global warming potential, but it presents its own challenges when it comes to lubrication.
