It was our pleasure to host Rear Admiral Guido F. Valdes and several sailors in honor of the U.S. Navy selecting Galveston for Navy Week. Rear Admiral Guido Valdes earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami School of Medicine as a Navy Health Professions Scholorship recipient. He holds several titles, including Commander, Naval Medical Forces Pacific, and Defense Health Network Pacific Rim Chief of the Navy Medical Corps. Thank you to this group for bringing smiles to our patients’ faces. 😁 #NavyWeek #NavyWeekGalveston

Today, Shriners Children’s Texas hosted a special course, Enhancing Pediatric Burn Patient Outcomes: Preparing for Stabilization and Transport, where 54 healthcare professionals from across Texas gathered to learn more about burn care. The speakers shared essential knowledge on determining burn percentages, best practices for patient transport, and key insights for first responders. The highlight of the day? Hearing from former patient Jesus Salinas, who suffered severe burns in a house fire as a baby. Jesus, now a junior at UHouston University majoring in finance, shared his inspiring journey: "The only person that limits yourself is you." Despite his challenges, Jesus is thriving, enjoying hobbies like drumming and running. He’s even set to compete in the Houston Marathon in January!
